Mestory History Chapter One Rascal's Spiritual Life Series

The name of this series of articles is Mestory History because it is about me, Rascal. Yet it is His, God's, story. All recorded writings and oral traditions involving His created beings on this planet, Earth, are rightfully classified as History. I suspect the person who first coined the word, History, had the revelation of this fact in so selecting this name which is normally used in reference to records involving earlier events, activities, and in the lives of His people here. I am but thankful that my name is recorded in His Book Of Life.

I was a child of a promise. My mother first gave birth to my sister, Rita. Five years later, she gave birth to my brother, Robert. When my mother became pregnant a third time she did as her husband wanted, she had an illegal Abortion. Not too long afterwa rd, mother became pregnant again, with me. When my father, Clarimont Earl Miles, told my mother to have another Abortion, Mildred Anna Heck Miles refused.

I made a promise to God that I would never have another Abortion, Buddy she said with unquestioned resolve.

Just chalk this one up to me, Mildred, dad forcefully respondedcertain that his directive would settle the matter. Having been raised a Mormon, Dad believed that when, as Mother had insisted, they had married in the Roman Catholic Church, any chance for him of an eternal after-life was long gone. Especially, as he had signed a piece of paper agreeing that any ch ildren of their sacramental union would be raised in his wife's faith. His wife had never defied him before.

I will not, Bud! If this means that we must get a divorce, we will do that. I promised God. You didn't! The priest wouldn't even grant me absolution for my other horrible Abortion. I cannot even receive Holy Communion, Buddy. Mother never so much as wavered in her resolve.

I hope that you know what you are saying, Mildred. We have two children already. What makes you think that we can afford to have another one? You're just being stubborn, Mildred!

No, Buddy, I'm not. But, I am going to have this child! I can take in laundry, work cleaning other people's houses, or I'll find some other job, if you believe that we need more money. We'll be just fine, Bud!

I just hope you kn ow what you're getting us into, Mildred. With those final words, the issue was settled.

On October 15, 1947, in what is now called Baker City, Oregon, I was born into this world. While I have no recall of this event, I was later told that my mother was very happy, while my father was horrified by my obvious Birth defect. It was a lump on the upper rim of my right ear. Dad insisted that it should be removed. It never has been. Now, as my ears have continued to grow for 58 years, the small abnormality is barely visible. The 70 plus decibel hearing loss in both my ears I inherited from my watchful mother, was not discovered until my arrival home.

On Learning Guitar Where's the Guarantee?

What a place the world wide web is. So much information. So much knowledge. So much, um - stuff to wade through.

To look at the many commercial Guitar websites out there, youd swear a Satriani was being born every minute. The sites scream out at you play like a pro, insider secrets revealed, master Guitar in 30 days guaranteed Amazing. In fact, all the Guitar systems out there seem to be guaranteed. But guaranteed to what? Have you play like a pro? Have you play a song start to finish?

Actually, theyre guaranteed to the extent that if you return them within a specified time-frame, youll be refunded your money. Thats it. Thats all. Theres no actual guarantee that you will play Guitar. There cant be. Youre a human being. Theres no guarantee on anything.

Thats not to say that you shouldnt aspire to learn Guitar. Its the most wonderful instrument in the world. Go into any local music store and watch the wizards wail, on electric or acoustic. Will you get there? Thats not certain. There are so many variables.

your natural musical inclination
your manual dexteri ty
your musical ear

Those are some of natures gifts (or lack of) which will affect the outcome. Then there are the more physical, down-to-earth factors:

your budget
your time constraints
the rest of your life outside Guitar

Everyone would love to play the Guitar at some point in their life. Thats a fact. The ultimate level of ones success on Guitar is dependent on all the above factors and more. Lessons are never a bad idea, if you can af ford them. Practice, of course, is the only way to improve. Teaching aids such as those found on the internet can be a help. Watching Guitarists (and musicians generally) in action can be an eye-opener and motivator. What it all adds up to is theres no guarantee.

But what about those novices or frustrated players who just cant seem to find the zone? Where the very basics of the instrument seem to be a hindrance. All of the books, all of the coaching, all of the websites and their systems and aids, that dont seem to help. Where progress is limited. Those are the ones I love to pick up. Ive seen them all. From housewives, to six year-olds, to frustrated veterans, even good Guitarists who just want to get better. Ive got the way that is actually different.

My site has the same guarantee as everyone elses if you dont like what you bought, return it and youll get your money back. What I also am able to guarantee is that my system, Guitar-eze, is truly easier. Especially at the outset, when most of your chords are played with one finger. Guitar-eze focuses on open-D tuning. You build from there; theres way less to memorize, and less fingering technique to master upfront. Its easier. Guaranteed.

Frank Foxx is a semi-professional Guitar player and part-time Guitar teacher who plays exclusively in the tuning of open-D. He has written a Guitar method book, extolling the virtues of what he considers to be the most versatile and easiest of all Guitar tunings, entitled Guitar-eze A Simpler Approach to Playing the Guitar. His website is http://www.easierGuitar.com. He keeps a blog at http://open-d.blogspot.com dedicated to helping Guitarists and aspiring Guitarists see the light .

Sun Moon and Stars

The sun shone like it did yesterday. Sometimes its rays fill me with lightness. I've lived on it for 23 years and a little more now.How come I never really took a moment to think of its wonder. It stays there like its destined to shine forever. The sun that shines on everything - living and non-living without any partiality, on the rich and the poor, the good and the bad never fail to show up when the day dawns. Sometimes a bright day is all we can ask for when we wake up from our slumber and its there for free to take us to the day that's awaiting us.

It stays there where it's placed to give life to the plants, flowers, trees and everything under it. This light giving force that never seem to stop shining till its time for the night to set in, illuminates the world with its brightness. It doesn't retire till the night steps in so that we could keep aside the chores of the day and sleep for a while. Even then, it shines somewhere in another part of the world. The sam e sun that shone yesterday in all its brightness, is here again today to light our day and it would still not forget to shine tomorrow.

Rest we must. And the night creeps in giving us time to rest our little thoughts, close our eyes and sleep. But if you think the night is all darkness then you are wrong. For the moment the sun gives way to the entry of the night, there is still a beautiful thing that we can anticipate. Infact, not one but two and even more. If there's anything romantic you want to see, why, spend a moment under the beaming moon. Its soft glow fills the entire place with a sense of peacefulness. There is nothing more serenading than the glow of the moon. It knows just when to come out and even when it's not in its full form, the moon still looks as beautiful as ever. And there's more to the night. The cluster of stars fills the sky in all its brightness. There's no replacement to this. They colour the sky in their own wonderful way. These small tiny sh ining things that twinkle as we see it from where our two feet are placed are beautiful creations. Sometimes when a star falls down you feel something you wish might just come true. Maybe it's true. Maybe not. But it certainly gives a feeling of goodness. People thank their lucky stars when something really amazing happens. Perhaps the stars are just not enough reason for the good that happens. But these lights that control our day and night are uniquely beautiful in their own way.

The sun, moon and stars - the lights that shine on us every passing day, they are with us everyday, illuminating our lives and our days. These lights that set apart day and night, and yet giving us light in their own time just when we need them. Their rays, glows and sparkles are going to shine forever for humanity, for our world. What beautifully designed amazing creations. That there could be lights of all kinds to rule our day and night.

In my twenties ~ that wavy age where times se em hardest, yet very adventurous too. You are not too young niether old. Deciding phases, getting serious kind of phase where Life brings you a lot of tides to ride. But i love every moment of it. I love the lovely times i can count on, even the ugliest of situations. They make me a better person. With dreams in my pocket, seeing them taking buds am gonna do all i can let them take their flight. Someday i hope to see them flowered and be happy enough that for once i did something worth celebrating. And that's gonna be Life. M celebrating every moment of it. I live in India, in its Capital City. I write for a weekly column for a Newspaper. I love doing it all. I love writing. I love my home town. Its a hilly place. And i wish to make a difference in my life's journey.

Black Magic

Magic, regardless of how it is defined, has always held the human mind under deep sway. It is one of the few things that fall in the grey area between trickery and the unexplained.

Without having understood the exact implications of the term 'magic,' people have proceeded to define its types. The thing is people have opinions about magic, not tangible knowledge and so they end up calling good magic 'white' and evil magic as 'black.' Although, modern sensibilities have a different understanding of the term from their medieval counterparts, the obsession with evil aspects of magic has remained. It is far more alluring to ascribe the power of Satan himself to the practioners of magic than to accept them as harmless nature worshipers. Thereby arises the concept of black magic and its capacity to send plagues on nations and destroy the sanity of populations.

In reality, there is no such thing as black magic or white magic for that matter. Magic is magic, no further classifications! The nature and application of the concepts of magic are unanimous and have no connection with good or evil. What directs the outcome towards catastrophe or benediction is the intent of the person doing the magic. Since human hearts hardly ever free of prejudice, the result of spell or ritual is affected by the practioner's bias. However, this explanation does not imply that the practioners can be segregated as 'black' and 'white.' The belief system of those who perform magic does not hold true the concept of 'absolute evil' or 'absolute good' i.e. to say they believe that a person's being is made up of good as well as bad intentions. What matters is which intention is being projected while doing magic.

Topmost among the magical practices that are most often described as 'black' are Santeria and Obeah, both of which have roots in Voodoo. Their culture of changing people in to zombie and torturing individuals by poking needles in to dolls is more an urba n legend propagated by the media than reality. Voodoo, although considered very potent magic is used more in the spiritual sense than being physically harmful.

Exam 70228 Installing Configuring and Administrating MicroSoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition

This exam tests your skills required to install, configure and administrate MS SQL Server 2000, Enterprise Edition. The targeted audience is candidates with one or more year of experience administrating and implementing relational data base in a medium to large computing environment. In other words, you should be fairly familiar with the SQL relational concept before you start this exam. It will be a rough road if you have no idea what a tables or data bases or indexes means!

Why take the SQL exam? There is no question that MS SQL Server is tied in the .net world. Furthermore, if you look at Windows Rights Management System, that safeguard digital information from unauthorized use and protection of sensitive information, such as Web content, documents, and e-mail, you will notice that it employed SQL Server as its data base. In other words, more and more applications will employ SQL server as its database engine! Before you start the project, check the official MS Ex am objective at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-228.asp for detail information. You can obtain the necessary material or training by attending the following Instructor-led courses:

Course 2071: Query MS SQL Server 2000 with Transact-SQL
Course 2072: Administering a MS SQL Server 2000 Database
Course 2073: Programming a MS SQL Server 2000 Database

Exam Vital Statistics

Number of Questions:..........................45
Time:............................................. ..105 min
Level of Difficulty:..............................8/10
Score format:....................................Numeric score
Passing grade:...................................700

Preparation Setup

Two PC(P4) for two SQL servers connected through Cable modem router
MS Press: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 System Administration Exam 70-228
SAMS: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 unleashed
MSPress: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Technical Reference Libra ry
MSPress: Book-On-line.
Addison-Wesley: SQL Queries for Mere Mortals
Apress: SQL Server Stored Procedures Handbook
Addison-Wesley: The Gurus Guide to SQL Server Stored Procedures, XML, and HTML

Reading data base books can drive your eyes red and dry some time. There is so much material in relational data base technology arena that you can read for weeks or months without ever approaching your exam target date! We all have different educational background and study habit, check out your local libraries and book stores for the best study material suitable for you!

A practical approach would use MSPress: Exam 70-228 as a starter and SAMS: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 unleashed as a secondary source. First read and do the lab exercises in MSPress: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 System Administration Exam 70-228 book. Pay careful attention to the setup parameters or options. Do not skip a single exercise! The exercises are designed with certain amount of dependence. The exercises are designed to run on a single SQL server, however, you will gain more insight if you change the exercises with the two SQL Servers approach! It is a good idea to try this on your second time and not on the first time lab exercise especially for linked servers and replications testing.

Books On Line or BOL came with the SQL Server software. It is indispensable and free! The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Technical Reference Library is a six volumes set BOL without the on line portion. I got a used copy from EBay for only $35. In the MSPress 70-228 exam book, many references were made to MSPress: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Administrators companion . It is very readable reference and a good item to add to your library. The only reason I did not pick up the book because I have too many DB reference books in my library. Next read the SAMS: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 unleashed. Make sure you load the sample data bases to practice your SQL commands and u tilities. You will find the reading at faster pace. Read the other books as you approaching the subject of your interest, such as stored procedure. You may pick up additional material on Data Transformation Services (DTS). If your Transact-SQL experience is light, consider to buy a copy of SAMS: Teach yourself Transact-SQL in 21 Days to get a more comprehensive hold on Transact-SQL. It is not a bad idea to start coding your own stored procedures and more esoteric Transact-SQL queries. Although you will not need a working knowledge of stored procedures and Transact-SQL for 70-228 exam, Youll need that skill for the 70-229 exam!

After you completed the intensive reading, go back and do the Readiness Review Exam in part 2 of MSPress 70-228 exam. I also used the Transcender exam as an additional practice source.

Here is some note I gathered during my study you may find it useful in your own preparation.

Installing and Configuring SQL Server 2000

Careful consideration and planning are required for your installation. It would be wise to have an installation plan and objectives in place. Not only used as documentation, but for performance tuning and disaster recovery later. Do you need fault tolerant for your installation? Can it be done with stand-by server, or cluster? What is the default collation, file locations, number of instance and service accounts in the setup?

How can you install SQL Server 2000 to co-exist with SQL 6.5 and SQL 7.0? What is the migration path?

What are net-libraries and their limitations? When do you need to use Multiprotocol instead of TCP/IP? How do you assign the proper rights for SQL Server Service and SQLAgentMail?

Can you execute your queries against your linked server(s) or formerly known as remote server(s)?

Creating SQL Server 2000 Databases

When you configure the databases pay attention to performance options such as disk capacity, network connectivity, and physical drive placement. One of key to database performance is the location of transaction log, primary and secondary file group. Youll be bombarded with many questions on this topic alone! What is the purpose of this database? Are they read-only or transactional?

SQL Server 2000 supports a number of methods to enforce data integrity; this includes data types, NOT NULL, DEFAULT definition, IDENTITY properties, constraints, rule, indexes, primary, foreign keys, and triggers. Make sure you know when to apply them. You will be test on these concepts in more detail later in exam 70-229.

Managing, Monitoring and Troubleshooting SQL server 2000 Databases

Monitor your database performance by using System Monitor, SQL Profiler and Enterprise Manager. What can you monitor using System Monito r vs SQL Profiler? Can you use both methods to monitor your SQL server? Do you know how to setup alerts so you will be notified?

Do you have a backup/recovery plan in place? Can you fully recover up to the time of failure? Can you recover the magical system state data?

Practice and rehearse your disaster recovery plan! Execute your DBCC CHECKDB, CHECKTABLE, SHOWCONTIG and other DBCC commands until you have them on your finger tips.

Do you know how to troubleshoot SQL transaction locking by using Transact-SQL, SQL Profiler or SQL Server Enterprise Manager?

Extracting and Transforming Data

When you setup IIS Virtual directories to support XML dont forget the security! Know how to export and import data by using Data Transformation Services (DTS), Bulk copy program, Bulk Insert and distributed queries.

Develop your schedule your DTS packages. When interacting with other SQL database or data source, be careful about the data type and precision , and collation.

Check the replication services! Know how to setup DTS using GUI is important but how about UDF?

Know your replication inside out. You must be fully comprehend snapshot, merge, and transactional replication without any hesitation!

Managing and Monitoring SQL Server 2000 Security

What is the difference between Windows Authentication and Mixed modes? Allowance must be made to clients connectivity (internal vs internet), Client operating system, security requirement and infrastructure.

How is spgrantlogin differs from spdbaccess?

How do you control your database access? Are you using server role, database, and application or user role to control security access? May be your application required more granular control by going into object permissions?

Can you audit your security setting by using SQL profiler or C2 Auditing. What will happen to your SQL Server if your audit log is full?

Managing, Monitoring and Troubl eshooting SQL Server 2000

How is your SQL server behaving? Notice any system bottlenecks in Disk I/O, network connectivity, memory, paging, and transactional throughput from your monitoring software?

What SQL transaction caused that system lockup? Does this problem stemmed from coding, database structure or programming logic? Perhaps, it is time to review that database schema and indexes!

Now, you can use your knowledge on DBCC INDEXDEFRAG, DBREINDEX, SHRINKDATABASE, and SHRINKFILE or modify that database schema or recode that Transact-SQL statement!

No doubt, the above note is just a tidbit and is far from complete. Exam 70-228 is one of enjoyable preparation I even did. It encompasses a fairly large territory involving Windows 2000 knowledge, IIS/XML, SQL database structure, and connectivity expertise. How involved will depend on your own personnel requirements. It is not an easy test! Please note that this exam required you have some hand on experi ence on the SQL Server 2000. So allocate sufficient time for study and lab exercises. Definitely, Ill not recommend this exam to be taken as a first MCSE test, youll struggle with server setup, MAPI profiles,..etc.

If you passed the test, it is only the beginning to the world of MS SQL, check some of the following web sites for additional SQL information:

MSDN SQL Server 2000
dbforums
SQL Server Magazine
SQL Server Central
SQL-Server-Performance.com

Hope you have established a good relation with MS SQL and start your journey on the right note!

Mort Du Gilligan

For his time, William Shakespeare wasn't considered all that hot a writer. His plays were thought to pander to the vulgar masses being at the same time the modern day equivalent of either Soap Operas or Sit cons. Bob Denver's passing made me wonder if in three or four hundred years time Gilligan's Island won't be considered the pinnacle of the Dramatic Arts, much as the Bard's plays are considered now.

Think about it: In three or four hundred years time, no one will really understand twentieth century English, anymore than we understand Elizabethan English. We think Shakespeare is so great mostly because we don' t know what the hell they're friggin' talking about, you know, all those 'Hither's' and ' thee's' and 'yon's. So, we all pretend we do and nod solemnly and praise the 'beautiful' language when we really don't want to look stupid. Centuries from now it will be the same with Gilligan's Island. Our descendents will be 'oohing' and 'ahhing' over the beautiful language of this show.

As envisioned by creator Sherwood Schwartz, Gilligan's Island was meant to be Social Commentary using the metaphor of cast-a-ways trapped on an island, each one of the cast-a-ways was iconic of an American segment of society. The interaction between the characters would be symbolic of the interaction in our cultures. Thus, you have Mr. Howell and his wife representing the American Upper classes, The Skipper representing the working classes, The professor representing the intelligentsia, Ginger the entertainment sector, Mary Ann the rural Midwest and Gilligan ... all of us. Gilligan was the Ameri can Everyman.

As with The Tempest, the island setting represented the deep psychological underpinnings of the story. Here you have a world unto itself separated from civilization, a Hobbesian state of nature where life is nasty, brutish and short. Thus it is human nature itself.

By the way, if you're a High School or College student looking for stuff to steal for a term paper ... go ahead and steal this. None of these ideas are mine, anyways. And it's not really plagiarism if it's already been copied from somewhere else in the first place, so feel free to use this all you want. What's that? Just a second .....

Oh. I just found out it is plagiarism. I'm sorry. My Bad.

There also is the Religious interpretation of Gilligan's Island. This interpretation has each of the cast-a-ways representing one of the seven deadly sins in a sort of morality play. The Howells represent Greed, of course. The Skipper represents Gluttony, that one's obvious, too. Gilligan is Sloth ... I think. Ginger is Vanity. The professor is pride, because he's so pround of how smart he is and Mary Ann .... she doesn't seem so sinful, but I know there was one that was supposed to represent her.

Bob Denver by all accounts was a very intelligent and talented actor. You'd have to think that it would take a genius to play the part of such a boob to perfection. Denver's career, I have to believe, must have been forever crippled by brilliance of his character portrayal, such that he was never offered another acting role of merit because he had forever captured that one role to perfection, and was condemned ever after to live in that twilight world of Conventions and Super Market openings.

Now, please remove your hats and sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip

Musad alZarqawi: A Poetic Epitaph

Commander of Blood and Dirt

Zarqawis death: Im sure his people are claiming it was a quest to give his life for the blood and dirt he walked upon, while here on earthand to Allah, and his killing band, this sick, sick man: now will be in his hellish Islamic Paradise, one he created in his own little mind, somewhere, somehow, sometime, back when, when he and the beasts, sat down and had their little feasts. I suppose his followers are now all thinking hes got it nice; he entered Allahs presence with a blood soaked knife: he can claim he did Allah a favor, as if he needed his help. I think Allah led the US Army and Air Force to his little house, his nest, and did him in; thats the way it usually is.

Oh well, he will need no fingerprinting down there in hell; perhaps a little show and tell, to the men who will do him in, make love to him, he will have lots of time to boast and screwdemonic beasts he never knew; dont worry, theyll recognize him, he was the ma n, the man for a day, on the dirt and bloody land in the Middle East called Iraqi.
