Connecticut State Scottish Festival in Goshen

Connecticut doesnt have an annual State Fair as it participates yearly in the Eastern States Exposition which is made up of the six New England States, but that is another article. This article focuses on the Connecticut Scottish Festival held in the town of Goshen every October. Are you ready for some Scottish Games?

Visitors should be, since the festival organized each year by the St. Andrews Society is focused on the celebration of Scottish culture and heritage. The Society uses money from the festival and other events to donate to charities here and in Scotland and provide scholarships to students looking to study Scottish Heritage. Come up to Goshen Fairgrounds and if you find youre lost listen for the sounds of the bagpipes perpetually playing during the Fair. Learn about the heritage of Scottish Clans by visiting their tents at the Fair. If you think you might have some Scottish ancestry head over the to the tent of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists to learn how you can trace your family roots.

Bagpipe playing is a competition here, deciding who can play the best pipes and probably play the longest without passing out! Celtic Music is the theme at this festival. Visitors can find the stage packed with folksy singers and fast-paced drumming bands, both. Dont forget about the Dance Exhibition where visitors can get an up close look at the fancy footed dance that is unique to the Celtic culture.

On sale at the festival will be a range of Scottish foods, you just might find Haggish, though you may prefer the Bannocks (Scottish biscuits) or the Scotch Meat Pies if you happen to find a vender selling them at the years Fair you are attending. You can also find a range of items imported from Scotland. This may include cloth, clothing, ales, beers and cheeses.

Harry Potter Rave

It is amazing to think about how the Harry Potter craze has captured the imagination of people all over the world. It doesnt matter if youre struggling with the business of living in some Third World country or happily ensconced in your glitzy Park Avenue penthouse in the Upper East Side of New York, chances are the Harry Potter craze has captured you and your ilk.

Harry Potters appeal transcends race or income bracket, culture and religion, sex and sexual orientation. The great majority of people simply love it. The appeal of powerful wizards and supernatural evils is certainly heady stuff. Its like one big rollercoaster ride where no one knows whats going to happen next. Perhaps the one sure this about this whole Harry Potter craze is that there will be a next installment of the series coming soon to a theater near you. And probably another one after that, and another, and another

For the more perceptive ones around us, the Harry Potter craze is no surprise. The books were great fiction (J.K. Rowling must be laughing himself silly now, all the way to the bank). Admittedly, the first of the series of books did not make a huge impact right away, but children across the world quickly caught on. Soon enough, kids couldnt stop talking about Harry Potter and were constantly in a frantic search for all the Harry Potter material that they could get their hands on. And, expectedly, parents soon got into the act and started looking into the newest buzz among their kids. They began reading the books and may of them hooked into Harry Potter craze. That the book series was transformed into a series of films was only inevitable. But one still has to take their hats off to the films producers and creators, because they have been able to translate the magic of the book into the big screen, making Harry Potter and his dazzling adventures even more larger than life.

Admittedly, some adults dont fancy the Movies as exactly their cup of tea. But others did fall in love with the series much like they fell in love with the Star Wars epic before that. Theres nothing like breath-taking sorcery and the battle of good versus evil on a grand scale to make us forget the price of theater admission. Among kids, however, one would be hard pressed to find a single one who wasnt crazy about the whole thing from the very beginning.

It doesnt matter if youve read the books or not. In fact, it hardly matters if youve seen any of the previous Harry Potter films. All you have to do is catch one of them (or the very next one) and you will be thrilled to the core. The worldwide web and your favorite DVD store (or Amazon.com) are other good places where you can pick up on the Harry Potter magic.

Magic The Cardinal Sin

The one thing you always hear from a professional Magician is you never tell your audience, or anyone for that matter, how a trick works. Once they know the secret, the mystery and fun is gone. It's kind of like finding out that there is no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. But does the rule of never telling how a trick is done still hold water like it used to?

It kind of depends who you ask. Many of the old time Magicians will cling to that belief no matter what the argument is against it. They've been doing Magic for a long time and as far as they are concerned, to tell how a trick is done is nothing short of treason and anyone doing such should be shot at dawn.

But then there are those who belong to the new school. These are people who feel that it's not only okay to tell another person how a trick is done by to actually charge them for the honor. If you go online you'll find a number of sites that do exactly that. They reveal tricks, usually on a rotating basis and even have what they call a Magic exchange. This is where people are allowed access to the site if and only if, they submit a certain number of tricks to the site's collection. The tricks have to be certified to work. In other words, they will take your tricks, try them out and then, if they work, they are added to the site and you are granted membership. Some sites have additional restrictions that the tricks you submit must not already be in the database. This can be quite a hard restriction to get by as there are only so many tricks in the Magic world.

Then there are some sites that you pay a membership fee to become a part of. It may be a one time fee or a monthly membership. Once you become a member of a site like this, you gain access to their entire Magic database. Any trick that you want to know how it's done, all you have to do is just look it up. New tricks are usually added on a regular basis by the site itself. Some accept member's submissions but for the most part, they are in charge of what gets posted.

Most people feel that these online Magic exchanges are okay because you are sharing your tricks with fellow Magicians, which is the one exception to the rule. But how does one know when a new member is a Magician or just a curiosity seeker? For that matter, should it even matter? Isn't Magic something that should be shared by everyone?

The argument as to whether or not Magician secrets should be shared will no doubt go on for as long as people are still entertained by the art of Magic itself, regardless of whether or not the thrill of that entertainment is in not knowing, or in ultimately figuring out the unknown.

Arizona Blue Gunfighter: Lady in White End Chapters

The Saloon
Chapter Four

He had checked into the hotel: shaved, took a bath, and put on the cleanest dirty shirt he had. Combed his hair and wiped his boots off with spit and the shirt he was about to put on. He then looked out the window; it was 10:00 AM on the clock above the saloon he was in yesterday. Then tightening his gun belt, he went down stairs of the hotel, out the door, across the street to the saloon, then as Blue walked through the door he walked up to the bar, ordered a whiskey with a beer to wash it down. Two young gunmen were standing along the bar: fiddling with their shot glass. He hadnt seen them in the saloon the previous day, although he recognized most of the othersregulars.

A young man at his right, blond hair, medium build, about five food eight inches tall, perhaps 22-years old or there about was checking Blue out; first his height, his build, and then how his holster was, and his gun handle. Then his partner, a little taller an d heaver pointed to a picture on the wall.

Is that you, old man? the black haired fella said.

Blue jerked off his leather hat, saying, Does it look like me?

I heard of you, Arizona Blue. Fast as fast can be but not faster than my friend standing by you, he said with a cocky voice.

They were part of the new breed Blue thought, as he looked at both of them, one on each side of him. The blond next to him and the black dude farther down the bar. Theyd shoot you in the back that was the kind they were, thought Blue.

The blond stepped back: Meet you in the back of town, Mr. Blue. See how good you really are.

Blue stood there with his whiskey in one hand, the other close by his gun handle; the hell with it take this kid out he told himself, but on my wedding day (?) so he questioned himself.

Said Blue with a hesitant voice, one he never had before,

Im getting married, fleas, so its your lucky day, go home.

Momentarily he fel t odd, he should take care of these two, right here and now, it was his style. Why let another man have a chance to plan your killing.

The two men walked out of the bar, and then Ben asked,

A local lady I gather?

Yaw, your sweet little Ella, answered Blue.

Ella, replied Ben surprised, shes a pretty one all right. Ben thought he best leave it at that, in case something wrong came out of his mouth, and he might not live to regret it, remembering what the previous day had brought.

Blue looked at the clock in the bar, it was 11:00 AM. He then took his second drink: he drank it down quick, and walked outside.

The blond kid stood in the middle of the street, said,

I wish somebody would tell me, Mr. Blue, the true story of you, the coward part.

Nobody had ever dared call him a coward before, and lived to tell about it.

Where is your buddy, asked Blue.

No response.

Blue turned to face the bond gunfighter, his hand going slowly down to his gun side. Both were thinking: would it happen here. It was becoming too much for Blue to back away he couldnt take it.

Okay, kid, Ill meet you in that empty lot by the outskirts of town, no need to mess up the street here with blood.

This was not what he wanted at all though. He wanted to marry that woman that made him laugh. She would be a good sidekick, a good wife he thought.

Ella
Chapter Five

Ella came up from the church hearing there was to be a gunfight. She stopped at the edge of town and stood by an old broken down shack that once housed slaves. Several townsfolk were there already, but she moved a little farther away from them, standing alone for a moment. Behind her were two houses with backyards and fences dividing the three acreage [open area land, where the two men stood twenty-five yards apart.

Blue looked to his right, there was Ella: she was pretty as a sparrow, and all dressed in white. He smil ed; she had decided he was the one she wanted to marry and that as long as he married her he could do what he did best.

Never had she known such empty stillness, as she stood there. Her body was like a storm that wanted to break open the clouds.

Im ready boy, go for it, said Blue. The boy went for his gun but before he could clear his holster, Blue shot him in the heart. The boy went back a foot but not down. Blue looked dumbfounded. He knew he hadnt missed.

The boy was laughing so hard he didnt even aim the gun now dangling in his hand. He had on a metal vest that started to shine as one of the buttons broke off his shirt. Blue looked closer, squinting his eyes, trying to make heads or tails out of this drama.

Something else was wrong: Blue didnt see the black guy. He looked over to the fence; there were now a dozen or more people watching. The sheriff, Ella, and her dad stood by the shack on the right. All of a sudden Blue caught a glimpse of a gun pointing at him coming out from behind the fence. Its the other man, thought Blue, but before he could pivot his body to position himself, the fragments from the shotgun hit his chest like a dying buffalo: thus, he rocked back and forth, and then fell to his knees and then flat on his face.

The dark young man jumped out from behind the fence,

I killed Blue, he yelled.

Ella, frozen in shock, grabbed the sheriffs six shooter, and aiming it carelessly at the man, shot him four times, once in the foot, then in the shoulder, and as he fell to his knees, a bullet hit his chest, and his eye. The youth was blood soaked on the ground, next to dead. Her eyes lifted up and over to the blond, he knew if he shot her, the town folks would hang him but if he didnt, shed shoot him. Within ten seconds a bullet hit her forehead and she dropped to the ground. Then the fire works started, several guns started shooting at the blond. The gunfighter went down hitting the dirt like a chicken with his head snapping every which way.

Ellas father, picking her up, with her last words she asked to be put by Blues side and buried next to him. And her father did as she asked, putting her hand into his, and turning him over so she could see him. He had a smile on his face. As she laid there: 10-seconds of life left, she whispered to her father,

You know daddy, one day out of my life, today, was better than all the rest. And she died, and was buried by him. Their tombstone read, Mr. and Mrs. Blue: Sidekicks.

Sex Controversy Art and Fame

Wang Guiquan is famous now...barely two days ago, a google search had nothing on her. Today, there are reports, blogs, Articles and discussions all over the internet - from China and Japan to India, Germany and further afield.

She did her thing and that raised a Controversy and now she has an acknowledged presence in the world of Art.

I remember a little incident that happened while I was still at college. One of the students there wrote a piece on the prevalence of homoSexuality at the college hostel. The college is and was one of the best-reputed institutions in India and the Article was published in a magazine that was somewhat well-known and popular with the young English-reading public, especially students.

In the Article, the young man alleged there was rampant homoSexuality within the college hostel and the gutsy young man who spoke with a lisp and in a manner well below the standards of the college made instant enemies. He had a harrowing time for the next few days and faced a lot of ire from the students and the management at the college. However, the anger cooled down soon enough. More importantly, he was noticed by the publishing world and though his English was merely average, if not worse, he was soon contributing Articles to some pretty well-known publications.

Today, he is a senior journalist working with a reputed publication. Assuredly, his English has improved considerably since those stormy days and he has learnt a lot about his craft. And, he is famous...well, famous enough!

So, Wang Guiquan with her bold expression and about twenty pictures of her Nudes and close-ups of her Genitals in 'Experimental Space', an exhibition in Nanjing has already attracted a lot of attention and notoriety, if you like. She has also, surely, made a lot of enemies and critics but she has fired what might be the biggest salvo of her fledgeling career.

There is no tonic like Sex and Controversy to give a heady push to an Artist's career.

Wang Guiquan, deserves support and encouragement from all who believe in Art because, in the world of Art, an Artist has just been born.

Troy Burroghs and the Cake

I was in a little town I call, Somewhere in North Dakota, outing with a few friends. I guess they were supposed to have been friends, they were supposed to bebut! I took a picture of Johnny and Johnny. I asked them to take a picture of me, but they wouldnt, Im not sure why and I left it at that for the momenta forever moment. I guess it didnt matter all that much, I noticed I didnt have any film in the camera anyhow, so all the better, and I got to see what they were made from, or out of.

Then I noticed a store nearby, saw the roof of it to be frank, over the trees somewhat, and as I walked towards it, I discovered I was walking the wrong way; in any case, a black man came walking by me wanted to help me, and I said:

No need to, not sure why those exact words came out, but they did. Perhaps I was mad because Johnny and Johnny didnt take my picture with my camera that didnt have any film; perchance a delayed reaction, a little Post Traumatic Stress, I hear so m uch about that nowadays.

He asked for a Chesterfield cigarette, and some candy: yes, yes, were still on the black man, he now wants a certain cigarette brand and candy; as if Im the store I was headed for before I went the wrong way. He was on his way to his mothers house he said, and asked if I wanted to go with him. I got moving, in motion as he was talking, I thought maybe he wanted my Dobbs hat, but now that I think about it maybe it was my wife he wanted. She wasnt with me though. Who knows what people want, you cant read their minds. I once asked a black man:

why do you date white women?

I mean there are a lot of black pretty women out there, Ive dated a few. And he said,

Theyre easier! I was in shock, I didnt ask: easier than what, because I was still trying to figure out if I was going to get into a cockfight or not over this. Anyhow he didnt have blood in his face when he said it, it was just down to earth honest to gosh truth. So I left it a t that.

At this point, I decided to forget the store, and went into the restaurant. I asked for a coke and coffee, I like drinking them at the same time. Sometimes they bring the coke back without the coffee, and it gets me mad, irritated, you see I know what they are thinking, but they are not taking the time to think what I had asked for, rather they have interpreted my little sentence to mean what theyd like it to mean, thinking how can a person drink a cold and warm drink at the same time, its possible, I do it all the time. It is like the trinity, no big thing to figure out if you got a big god; hard things to figure out if you have a little god. Besides all this other talk, a coke and a coffee is just that, no more, no less. I didnt say one for today, the other for tomorrow: oh no, I left it up to their brains to digest. But, and this is a not too good but: this time she had it together, and she brought both at once. Awa! a bigger tip she wants I thought. A f riend of mine was in the caf, asked where I got my hat: I thought: what is the big deal with my hat today, I told her not to make a fuss about the damn hat. That I didnt get the Chesterfield cigarettes I had planned on either (she didnt know what I was talking about). She didnt listen to me she was only for herself doing something with her face. Then she said,

Could we eat at McDonalds? I was thinking she was with the black man, that wanted that cigarette, but I guess not.

Decisions, decisions that is all I make all day. I do not care if we eat at Porkys or McDonalds, or whatever.

She looked at me now. She said,

Ok lets eat here, I want some cake, and so we ordered some; I really prefer pie to cake, but to keep the peace, I said ok, and we got the cake. Then out of the blue, she said,

You have to eat some if you want to ride my bike. Well, first of all I do not like cake, second of all, I never knew she had a bike, and could care less if I got a ride on it, I was supposed to get back to my camp site, and wasnt sure how she got into the story in the first place, perhaps she snuck into my dreams, and third, she could stick the bike up cant think of where, but you get the picture, any old place.

Well, Troy, she said with a smirk, are you, or are you not, going to eat this cake with me? I thought I have only one of those alternatives, how lucky I must be. She pointed to the cake; I picked it up and shoved it in her face.

I bet she was thinking those white guys are real jerks, being a black woman. But I know one thing, she didnt go looking for that black guy.

Would You Like To Be A Party Entertainer? Part II: Breaking In

In Part I, we talked about the requirements to be a party entertainer. Here, in Part II, we will discuss how to break into this rewarding and well paying field.

You have a finely honed skill, you like people, and youre willing to give up your weekends. Now what?

Well, now its time to get started.

You have to do two very important things: Introduce yourself to the world, and lay down the foundation for your new Business.

Introducing yourself to the world

Even though your skills may be excellent, taking on the role of a paid Performer in a party setting will be a new experience for you. So cut your teeth in low risk situations that allow you to perform in front of the public.

Fairs work well for newbie Performers. Depending on how you deliver your performance, you may be able to charge willing attendees individually. An example is a Tarot reader who charges for a reading.

Non-profit organizations are always looking for fun and inn ovative ways to raise money. Many hold fundraising events. Your invitation to donate your time or sell it at a deep discount to a struggling non-profit will be very welcome.

Be sure to ask the organizers to list you in their program and prominantly display your name and contact information.

Although you may earn little or no money at these events, you will test your mettle, polish your delivery, build your confidence, and guests will see you perform. Since some will be looking to hire party entertainment for their own events, you will begin to pick up paying gigs.

In fact, being approached for paying gigs by people seeing you perform is an indication that you are ready for prime-time. You are now acquiring a reputation as a Performer.

Hint: Bring lots of Business cards.

Laying down the foundation of your new Business.

Yes, like it or not, once you make the decision to accept money for your services, you are in Business.

By conducting yourself as a Businessperson, you will increase your chances for success, increase your respect among potential clients and peers and eliminate a lot of headaches down the road.

So how do you do that? Register your Business with the State and, if necessary, local governments.

Set up a system to track your income and expenses. It can be a notebook or your copy of Quicken. Print up some Business cards, and put together a flyer to describe what you offer. Dont forget to include all of your contact information.

Set up a system to track your bookings. You must, must, must have a failsafe way to record and remember your bookings. The worst thing you can do is fail to show up at a party when you are the hired entertainment

Find out the market rate range for talent in your area and set your own rate within it.

Some newbies are tempted to charge too little when they start out. Don't. You worked long and hard to build your expertise. And you will work h ard to perform. Don't shortchange yourself. If you feel your services are not worthy of the market rate, reread the previous section,Introducing yourself to the World.

Now, youre ready to go forward. Contact local event planners and entertainment agents, put up a website, advertise in the classified section of local magazines or newspapers (Hint: look at where other entertainers advertise).

Other Performers

As you perform, youll start meeting other local Performers. Welcome the opportunity.

Youll find that local party entertainers in the same specialty tend to know one another. Even though we are competitors. Most times we work with each other and help each other.

Thats because, individually, we benefit more by cooperating than undermining each other.

Entertainers often refer qualified peers for open jobs when their own schedules are filled. We substitute for each other when sudden emergency prevents one of us from fulfilling a commitment.

As you establish yourself as a competent professional, handling yourself with integrity, you'll be accepted by this network.

Now that youre prepared, youre ready to go! I wish you lots of fun and success.

What is a Comic Book Price Guide?

A comic book price guide is a great tool for determining what your comic books are estimated to be worth in the market today. The going worth of individual comic books can range all over the board. Some issues have been known to carry a value of six figures, while other issues aren't even worth the price you paid for them. A comic book price guide can go a long way in helping you determine this kind of information.

Action Comics #1 (the introduction of Superman) in mint condition has been quoted at being worth $650,000. A pretty tidy piece of change. Then Weird Science, issue #13, in near mint condition can command a respectable price tag of $5,750. There are also multitudes of back issues purchased at a newsstand price of around 5 bucks, that are now worth even less than that.

The ability to determine the actual value of individual collections is not an easy task or one to be taken lightly. Comic book pricing is a highly perceived value and will vary quite gre atly, depending on which opinion and which comic book price guide you choose to follow. By all means, if there is a reputable comic book dealer in your local area that you are comfortable dealing with, get his or her opinion. But in all my research so far, it seems that The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is the bible of most active comic book collectors.

I have my copy in electronic format, reachable from my desktop. It is very handy. If you truly want to understand what your magazines are worth, the first thing you need to do is to determine the physical condition of each comic book. Is it raggedy ass poor with pages missing and in need of a paper clip to hold it together? Or has it never been opened since being purchased and appears to be in mint condition? Even brand new comic books may not make the grade of mint or perfect condition.

The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide gives a very detailed description of all the grades and sub-grades used in the 0.5 to 10.0 scale. This grading system is generally accepted by all comic book aficionados. If you follow Overstreet's physical condition explanations and grading scale, you will get a pretty good feel for the conditions of your own collection.

The next step in your comic book pricing exercise is to then go through the myriad of pages in the comic book price guide to find your particular issues. Along with your now determined physical and grade co nditions, you can find your issue's current assumed value.

The comic book price guide also has tips on collecting, preserving and storing your comic books. And it defines the various ages (Golden Age, Silver Age, etc.) that comic book history has moved through.

I guess if I had to mention a drawback to this guide, it would be the fact that there is soo much information to go through, it could take you quit a while to devour the whole book. Once you get well acquainted and comfortable with the comic book price guide though, you could consider yourself an expert in your own right and help your friends out with their collecting and comic book pricing questions.

I do believe this guide to be an invaluable and inexpensive resource to have and I don't think you will be disappointed with it. Heritage Comics seems to be the top dog for delivering an electronic version of a comic book price guide. You can visit Heritage at http://www.comic-book-collection-made-easy .com/CBPG to learn more about the guide.

While you are there, you may want to surf around Heritage's site. There are some very interesting subjects there. They also have on of the biggest on line comic book auctions on the Net. If you have never seen Heritage Comics' site before and you really enjoy it, just remember where you heard about it at (ha, ha).

Of course if you would rather have a hard copy of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, I am sure your local comic book store would have a copy and I hope this little review has helped you with your pricing questions.

If you are serious at all about the monetary worth of your comic book collection, then a comic book price guide is a valuable tool to have. There are several available and even a few for free. But if you want some o f the most relevant and up to date data, then the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide has developed a superior reputation over the past 30 years.

The Bell Witch Haunting Movie Review

Forget the standard chop-em-up, or the freakish fiends in rubber masks. This film has more creepy moments than most of its genre. Although rounded out nicely with a cast of unfamiliar faces, each has been cast in a part suited to him/her. Each comes across as 100% believable, pushing this true story to the edges of your mind and waiting while your spine begins to chill.

Just knowing that The Bell Witch is a very real legend in Tennessee, tends to propel this story to an eerier-than-eerie place where we know we have to finish the movie, but that doesn't finish the haunting in our minds. This isn't some hoax like the Blair Witch Project, or a Hollywood ghost story like The Others. This is the real deal. This family lived this.

From the beginning, you find yourself keeping this thought in the back of your mind. The fact that this was experienced by real people is enough to fuel the icey fingers that take their journey up your spine. It's enough to set you on the edge of your seat to find out what's next. The Bell Witch legend belongs with the likes of The Others and more. Striking us as both fiction and non-fiction, it leads a class of its own.

It tends to put a whole new perspective on Ghosts and haunted areas. They can't always be tabled and explained away or put in a film vault.

Show Me The CD...If You Think Your Music's Great Record It!

Throughout the history of modern music, there hasnt been a musical Artist/Band who doesnt think that their songs are all #1 hits just waiting to be discovered. Many of these Artists have been correct and have stood by grinning as their tunes screeched up the charts. This inspires a new crop of musicians every year to feverishly pen their potential hits in hopes of making it big.

Musicians write. They rehearse. They play Clubs and hope that one day theyll encounter that special A&R guy (or gal) that will, see them, dig them, sign them, and make them stars. But surprisingly enough, many of these Bands never complete what is probably the most important tool for any musician signed or unsignedthey never record a CD.

It cannot be stressed enough that the CD is at the heart of any musical project . It is the physical embodiment of the song, the combination of writing and performing. Its any musicians skeleton key for: club gigs, reviews, and Radio play. CDs enable you to draw the attention of fans and industry at the same time. Whether containing one song or twenty, the possibilities of the unsigned Artists CD are endless. Post them on the web. Get them to the press. Give them to your friends. Sell them at your shows. Send them to the record labels. Your CD lets the world know who you are and what you sound like and gives anyone who digs your music the opportunity to listen to it again and again.

So, how can you make sure that youre CD does your music justice while appealing to fans and industry alike? While there is not one set way to record a CD, there are certain key elements that every professional CD should possess.

The following are a few tips that may help you to make sure that your CD will help your Band instead of hindering it:

1 .)Its Not The Size, Its What You Do With It---It doesnt matter how long your CD is, only that it accurately portrays your sound and vibe. If you dont have a lot of time or money to spend in the studio then record for quality instead of quantity. Its better to have one really kick ass tune recorded then a full length CD that sounds like it was recorded on a boom box in your basement. But that doesnt mean that your CD needs to be expensive or time consuming. The advanced technology of digital recordings has afforded musicians/Bands the opportunity to record in smaller home studios and still come away with professional sounding recordings. Its now all about finding an engineer with a fantastic ear and the mastery of his/her own gear regardless of how inexpensive it may be.

2.)Record And Mix For The Song---Remember a song is a collaboration. Even if youre the sole musician and engineer of your CD, recording a song is still an ensemble project. Instruments, voices an d effects must all work together as a team to produce the best possible finished project. If a guitar line is too busy, a kick drive is too loud, or a voice is perpetually off key, the overall quality of the finished product is compromised. There is a delicate balance of creativity and technology, of art and electronics that comes together to produce the wonder that is your CD. Treat that balance with respect. Put your ego aside and record with the songs as your absolute priority.

3.)Less Talk And More Action---Certainly there is a great deal of preparation that is required before recording. Mapping out the arrangements of your tunes can be an arduous process usually much more complicated than the live performance of the song. One guitar part becomes three, or five or ten, a basic drum part now includes percussion and electronic beats, two backing tracks can become twenty. Sometimes you feel as if your brain will certainly explode from the mapping out of all of the musical and vocal parts required to give your song a professionally recorded sound. But dont get so lost in the charting and practicing of various parts and forget that time is of the essence here. Its all well and good to tell those who inquire that youre in the studio or currently recording but if a CD does not materialize in a reasonable amount of time both fans and industry will grow disinterested and move on to someone who has a finished product.

4.)If It Sounds Good, Make It Look Good---After the time and energy youve spent to make your CD sound amazing, dont scribble on it with a blunt sharpie, throw it in a used envelope and expect a record label to be impressed with it. If your CD looks unprofessional, it will be dismissed as such and will probably spend its days unlistened to, lining the bottom of some A&R interns birdcage. Simple packaging is certainly acceptable but make sure your CDs first impression a good oneyour graphics are high quality, your t ext is neat, your paper stock is professional and all materials are unused. Even the most poorly recorded CD will get a listen, if it comes in a pretty package.

Now that you have a professional CD recorded, your possibilities are endless. Send it to anyone and everyone! Get your name out there! Make new fans! Grab some press! Get a record deal! Stand back and grin as your single goes screaming up the charts. Anything is possible if you have a good CD and can share your music with the world.

Comic Books

Even with the advent of electronic gaming and high technology alternatives, comic books still have the same appeal as they did thirty years ago collectors of all ages go crazy buying and preserving them, and fans still love their uncomplicatedness. Read on to find out more about how the comic books we know today came to be, and see why millions of comic collectors just cant get enough.

Origin of comic books

The comic book story has two versions: some say that the first comics were made by Egyptians in the early days through wall art and other paintings, while other comic historians say the first comics were comic strips those three to four frames of short skits we see illustrated in newspapers.

The United States first saw comic books in 1896, around the time that publishing houses started pulling together comic strips from different newspapers and putting them into one book. The sales of these rather primitive comic books skyrocketed, prompting publishe rs to come up with fresh stories and characters in a comic format.

The comic book as we know it today a soft cover glossy magazine type gained popularity in the 1930s, when Action Comics introduced Superman to the world. Superman did so well that different publishers eventually created many other comic book characters, some are very popular to this day.

Types of comic books

Comic books today cover an assortment of subjects there are even different genres, such as horror, sci-fi, fantasy, crime and real life. The format of comic books has changed over the years, and continues to change. There are now graphic novels, that are thicker and more heavily bound. Graphic novels are comics with more mature content. Graphic novels can also be compilations of comic series.

Web comics are gaining popularity. This refers to both comic strips and comic books found on the Internet.

The Wild Dove (a Sonnet to Elvis)

The wild-Dove (a Sonnet to Elvis)

I saw now, a wild-dove with no mate

Pass me by, as I walked my path of life;

So high, so high he flew, in the skys light, Boundless and quick, unblocked and elate, Happy, I thoughtHe must be, knowing his fate;

For he, like Solomon, had sipped lifes lusts;

(found the golden-seeds) perhaps for all of us, While as for me I watched, waited, and wished!

And thou, Ofair one, in thy stormy quest, Thou, too art lonely, gazing at us less.

O yes, O yes, my wild-dove, from up above,

Like Solomon of old, your hunger grew, And we all watched, gazed upon you: Lost somewhere, between heaven and below.

#942 12/5/05 Note: It has been said Elvis couldnt hold it all together any longer. You could see it in his face, displaced, mentally distorted, at the end of his lifes journey.

Im sure he was tired, and troubled as if snow had covered him, froze him where he stood. It was in his smile, his eyes, a nd his face: the fear of it plundering to the ground. And I seem to sense there was a moment, he didnt care, he wanted to let it all go, and thus, the struggle was over. This of course is an artist view, not perhaps the real thing.

I, like so many grew up with him being around, its seems he was everywhere I was during those far off days (I was in the Army, studied Karate, so forth and so on: sometimes I sense I may have even copied him, who didnt in someway or fashion?); myself being 58-years old now, and had Elvis lived, hed be seventy I think. Some 12-years my senior; the first time I heard his voice, was going to a boys club in St. Paul, Minnesota, it was Heartbreak Hotel, I had head of him, but not a full record of his yet, it was back in l958 I heard the song.

I was eleven years old back in l958. And so with all respect intended, I leave a sonnet for him, in my name, not because he was so great, but rather, because he left a message for me: you need to be r eady for what you ask for.

Poggi and the Cannibals Part 1 of 3: Poggi and Nelly In English & Spanish

It is not a matter of choosing a time when the psyche of man (usually because of aging) goes haywire, and during this gap in a mans life, or call it his changing of life, likened to the changing of seasons, he looks at opportunities; hoping to escape for one more run down youths lane. The man knows there is perhaps only one more chance to appear in the unrepentant world of youth; thus he must face fight or flight. Most do not leave the homestead, or comfort of the campsite to journey to the unknown, or unsafe areas, save they have plan A and B in place. Henceforward, he escapes, calls it what he wants, perhaps Indian summer, and goes astray, like a woman in menopause. Goes astray and does strange things. His body is changing, he wants to be young again (and he thinks he can), and like the young characters he watches on TV, the sports in particular: smooth bodies, muscles popping out: he can do it, just once more, this is the time, the one and only chance, if he is going t o take it, it must be now or never.

Nelly, Poggis wife (a good woman, and hard to find), and even Poggi is unaware he is going through this stage of life. Who wants to admit it even if you know it, it is a launching pad for escapism, to live in the forbidden, the imaginary world; thus, in Lima they live a happy life, or as happy as they can make it. He once was a prominent psychologist, not so prominent nowadays, but surely infamous for his past exploits. And so this is where our story begins.

2 Poggi and the Cannibals

3 Rescue From the Jungle

In Spanish Translated by Nancy Penaloza

Poggi y los Canbales

1

Poggi y Nelly

INVASION: It is Science Fiction at It's Best!

Back in the mid 1990s, I was presenting a series of UFO seminars all across North America. As part of the promotion process, I was booked as a guest on a number of top-rated talk and music radio programs in each town. While I was in Texas, one of these radio interviews happened to have been heard by Shaun Cassidy. At that time, he was involved with American Gothic, a television series that I enjoyed watching. After speaking with my wife back at home, I was excited to hear that Shaun had called and I looked forward to speaking with him. Opportunities like these give me a chance to influence both science fact and science fiction.

It was a pleasure to speak with Shaun about my investigative work. Thats because he didnt seek to have me validate everything I believed. Instead, he listened politely and attentively. I sent him a couple of the many VHS videos I had produced by that time. I encouraged him to watch the videos and consider how much information about UFOs and A liens was being held back from the average television viewer. Even when factual information surrounding the paranormal was presented on television, it was delivered with a built in censorship of what media types felt viewers could or would accept as the truth.

Shaun Cassidy said he was working on several different entertainment projects at that time involving paranormal themes, including some music. It was easy to understand from speaking with him that Shaun was very creative and had an insight that was more intense then the usual suspects who create fictional UFO shows, movies and the like. While I would have liked for him to have called me back for some sort of collaboration, I also knew my plate was full at that time. I was already involved with consultant and publicity work for Fire in the Sky, Men In Black, Independence Day, The Fifth Element and a few other films and television projects.

Having grown up in the 1960s, I was and remain in awe of the legacy th at the Cassidy Family represents within the entertainment world. I had seen Jack Cassidy in more then a few television shows and films. David and Shaun Cassidy have become a permanent part of American pop culture through their roles in The Partridge Family and The Hardy Boys, not to mention the music they have given us. However, Shaun has also become an important mover and shaker when it comes to television. Watching the premiere of Invasion explains why.

The series takes place in Homestead, Florida. This is a place not completely alien to weird happenings. It was rumored that alien bodies from a UFO crash had once been stored at Homestead Air Force Base. There are also accounts of secret underground facilities that do or did once at the base. The series concept seems to be that aliens are replacing the people in Homestead. Anyone who has ever visited the place (which is somewhat creepy), can easily believe that.

I liked the first episode and thats probably no ac cident. Shaun and I are almost the same age. People tend to create for or within their peer group. I can only hope that the series moves fast enough for a younger generation of viewers whose attention is constantly divided between any number of television channels, DVDs, computers, I pod selections and cell phones. If INVASION is like any of the other shows that Shaun Cassidy has brought our way, we can expect plenty of plot twists and surprises.

The thing I like most about INVASION is that its science fiction trying to be like UFO fact, not UFO fact pretending to be science fiction. This is where most other fictional UFO films and entertainment projects turned in the wrong direction. They tried to do the truth as fiction. As someone who has forgotten more about UFOs and Aliens then most people will ever learn, I can say that the truth is far more interesting and frightening then any science fiction ever created. When it comes to UFO fact verses fiction, its better for the two to have a wide and comfortable separation.

One of the videos I sent to Shaun was entitled, ALIEN INVASION. Although there was enough factual information in that one tape to inspire a dozen fictional television or film projects, Shauns Series and my tape bare no resemblance. That suits me fine and is another reason that I like his work. Shaun is one of the few people out there who are creative enough to build a fictional UFO show without stealing material from hard working paranormal investigators who often have to choose between making a car payment and investigating something that most people dismiss out of hand.

INVASION is science fiction done right and a Series we can all enjoy. Although creepy, its not too scary for those sensitive to the subject. Best of all, the beer-guzzling weirdo character who believes in all that UFO, alien and conspiratorial stuff is the one who finally gets to be right!

CNN's Number One Cities of the World Biased in English and Spanish

Out of five cities CNN claimes to be the best cities in the world to live, Ive been in four. One city in Switzerland, and three in Germany. Ive lived in Germany for four years, and Ive been in Switzerland, Zurich, one of the five cities or #2. Their criteria was based on transportation, safety (and Id say none of Europe is safe, not even Switzerland today). A few more areas of criteria were, entertainment, culture, etc.

If you can afford to visit nowadays, you surely cant afford to retire in Europe, unless youre Johnny Deep (who lives in France in a millionaire villa), or someone like him. Somehow I think the airlines, or the cities, or the EU paid CNN for such a survey slant.

Ive been to 60-countries, been to Munich, lived in Germany for four years, been to Europe a dozen times, London twice, Paris four times, Spain (several cities), etc. I admit, Switzerland and its cities may seem safe, but Id not live there thinking they are not being spotted for a futu re terrorist attack, all of Europe is ripe for it. I like Kyoto, Japan, but Id have to be a millionare to live there. I like Seville, Spain, but they do not have much of anything that would provoke me to pick up roots and move. I like Lisbon, but again, they are ripe for terrorism, and could not sleep a night.

So where is the safest city in the world to live: cheapest city, warmest city for foreigners, and where you can get culture, tradition, cheap transportation, parks, and mountains, and beautiful woman, and where terrorism is nil, and the only crimes you get is someone digging into your pocket for a dime? Huancayo, Peru. What more can I say. I dont think they (CNN) travel enough yet.

Tales of Poseidonia: Lesbian's Villainess' Dagger

Port of Poseidonia: the Lesbians Villainess Dagger [Memories of Ais

Let us not all believe Atlantis and the underworld with its demonic forces did not have its secrets, and dark powers beyond, for it surely did. And this sketch will bring forth, some of them.(Part X)

1 Relationships

Tame, she wasntthought Ais.

Remember the scribe Anases? Well his wife, Alexandria was a lover to General Marcus wife Juliana; a somewhat conflicting if not bewildering love circle of sorts, except the men didnt know, or at least Anases didnt know of the ongoing affair, and if the General knew, he was silent about it, and was mostly absent [gone for the most part.

A pulse in her temple throbbed sickeningly as if in a daze, pacing about the landscape of the watery grave of Atlantis, remembering the many battles Atlantis had in the Mediterranean: its island and coastal areas. For years the Atlantians had beaten the crumbling walls of the Greek cities to submission. O h, yes, they held out long, but not long enough. Egypt fell early on during its history with Atlantis and Crete was an outpost, sort of you could say, during this time.

In those far off days there were many traitors in the cities, some with sinister anticipations, and others in despairing fears. The General, General Marcus a hairy muscular bruit of a man with broad-shoulders, big headed man, with a dervish temper, was in Africa doing what he liked best, did best, loved to do: the kill, the hunt, for in many a warrior, it becomes a high, and at times hard to settle the internal mood for blood drown. He was like a wild saber-tooth tiger, as his wife was quite the opposite, yet Alexandria was more toward his style [Anases wife, funny how opposites attack. But it was similar to how they all met: Alexandria being attracted to Anases whom was more sedate, was obviously attracted to Juliana, and had made her move early on after their first meeting. And Juliana being at tracted to Marcus was subdued by Alexandria, as she was by Marcus [with a little blackmail possibly. In both cases of Anases and Juliana, one might say they were if anything: passive-dependent. And through many of such meetings, between husbands and wives, a love affair came about with Alexandra and Juliana. What was it that made them stay to gather: Juliana had once said?

My insides play games when Im with Alexandria; sometimes she takes my hand, only my hand for a very long time, yes, for a long time we remain silent, then something creeps inside of me, it starts out to be a feeling deep down inside I cant shake; sometimes my hands tremble. It is what men do not understand, the soft voice of a woman, with a caress, a kind of sincerity too. We get each other in a more subtle way. It last longer you know. It takes longer to understand also. There is something colorless, white and fine about it. Possibly it is something like: Ive longed for this.

But Alexandra was changing, what seemed to be love, was lust, a Satanic kind of lust, a lust that craved like a bull, a lust that took at will, and a hunger for something even more stimulating each time, like a drunk caught in a never ending cycle.

2 Eco

It was one summers day in the Port of Poseidonia when Ais was walking with two Royal Archeguards, one, the Captain of the Guards, by the name of Eco, passed a flat-roofed house with barred windows, as he was always a step ahead of the Queen on her right-hand-side, just a foot ahead, no more no less, to insure no harm would befall her. There, from the alley came another scream, a female screamhigh pitched. The sound that cried was not for help, but out of pain, out of panic, for she had twisted that kind of scream herself, the queen told herself; so it was unsuccessfully familiar, she had produced such a scream twice in the past, once because of the king, and the second time because of the long ordeal with Aon [love making or so that was what it reminded her of: both times selfish love, love that demanded of her, not with her.

As they approached, came to the door the screams were seeping out of them like flies whizzing around in circles: Eco opened the front door, and the queen followed him in, as the other guard followed behind, sword in hand. The Queen blinked her eyes several times to adjust to the comparative darkness. Now she could hear a struggle beyond the curtain divider where a bed was, a portion of it was visible. Light through the window behind the bed illuminated the area from the darkened hall.

There lay on the bed a young Ethiopian woman, at closer view it was Juliana, the wife of General Marcus, and on top of her was Alexandra, the wife of Anases, whom had a dagger in her hand. Alexandra was of a burnished bronze skin and Juliana was of a dark silk like skin; Juliana several years younger than Alexandra. The black girls face was wet with angry sweat, and tears; the Egyptian dagger but inches away from her throat.

The Villainess

The victim, to be, her clothing had been torn off, exposing her fully, as Alexandra had her wrap opened, exposing her upper portion of her body. At that moment, Ais commanded Umbert, the second royal guard, to grip the womans hand and stop the violence, and thus do with her as he pleased, which was really, to get rid of her, once and for all. At that point the dagger dropped out of her hands, as Umbert escorted her out of the house by the hair, and threw her in the street, telling her never to be seen again in the city, for she was an embarrassment to the Royal Family.

The black girl tried to put her torn clothing back on, unspeaking, yet devouring everybody with her dark deep eyes. There was an innocent charm about her no doubt, thought the queen, a young bride at seventeen to the crude and gruesome general, General Marcus, whom was three times her age. She had never told her husband of her affair with Alexandra, nor had Alexandria told Anases [all secrets within the love circle; as the queen had never told her husband of her lustful affair with the nymph, Aon.

It was told to the queen later on (some months after this event took place) that Alexandria had run off with a Hippokamp, in fear shed be killed, or starve to death on her own in the city, but the queen knew it wasnt Aon, or hoped it wasnt for some hidden jealous reason. Its funny, we dont want to leave our nest, nor do we want anyone other than us, in our old nests, those we left far behind that is.

3 Juliana

Whowho are you? asked Juliana looking up from the bed meeting the Queens eyes directly, with her squeaky high pitched voice, young tearful voice, as if trying to get out of a trance.

Ais, Queen of Atlantis, she replied with a majestic countenance.

I was, wasAlexandrias lover, as you could see, and she, she became lost in some kind of spell. She has whipped me and oth er things and I think she became desensitized and the next level of lustfulness was beyond sex, rather watching me die.

She didnt know the word, but what she was trying to say, and what she really didnt need to say was she became desensitized to simple love making and its other highs; that is to say, she needed a higher high. She needed to be drugged.

Ah, but even the Queen was taken in a bit back by her silk firm and tight body, youthful body with its curves, as if she had taken care of herself royally to achieve what every lover desired, male or female. As she had to turn about to examine her, she noticed lacerates that seemed to be made by long finger nails; then the examine stopped and Juliana involuntarily fell to her knees by the Queen, touching her legs saying:

Oh, please forgive me for such foolishness, for I have enticed her in the beginning, I just didnt think it would go this far; lust has its cravings does it not.

She then ordered lotion for her, and Eco went to get it while the other Umbert stood guard by the door; the Queen then covered her up gently, slowly, putting the covers with her fingers over her fatigued body as if they were feathers, soothing her wounds.

Indian Classical Dance Classes Bharatnatyam Teacher

Namaste,

Indian culture today has a distinct identity enlivened through Temple traditions. Indian Dance forms associated with the evolution and development of Temple arts speak volumes of the great cultural endeavour. Indian Dance forms as practiced today have captured global attention sensitising the Indianness in all the cultural vistas of the world.

India offers a number of Classical Dance forms, each of which can be traced to different parts of the country. Each form represents the culture and ethos of a particular region or a group of people. The most famous Classical forms are BHARATANATYAM of Tamilnad, KATHAKALIand MOHINIYATTAM of Kerala, ODISSIof Orissa, KATHAK of Uttarpradesh, KUCHIPUDI of Andhrapradesh and MANIPURI of Manipur.

Dance forms were nurtured with a purpose in the sacred premises of temples. Temple dancing had a mission: to take art to the people and conveying a message to the masses. The monotony of the life of commonness as well as t he elite was equally shared in the premises of a Temple. True religion sanctified every element with a touch of beauty.

Art was an effective means to suggest the cosmic truth touching the hearts of the devotees through Dance, music, sculpture, architecture or a piece of jewellery, when compared to the effect created by rigid ritualistic practices

Oil Painting Supplies Guide For Beginners

When I first began painting some 10 years ago, I remember my first trip to my local art supply store. I recall my feeling of utter confusion as I perused the aisles. This particular art store had every tube of paint, brush, medium and canvas known to man, far too many choices for a confused beginner. After several moments, a sales person came by and began to assist me in finding the supplies I needed. To make a long story short, I left the store 30 minutes later with a box full supplies, half of which I had absolutely no idea what to do with. I wish I knew then what I know now. I could have saved myself a lot of money.

When you are first starting out in oil painting, you shouldn't go overboard on supplies. It's best to start with the basics. When you become more experienced, you can then try out different supplies until you find the items you are most comfortable working with.

Oil Painting Brushes - Brushes come in various sizes and shapes from flats to brights to rounds. They are also available at various prices. Brushes are something you should definitely spend a bit extra on and shoot for quality. You don't want cheap brushes. Cheap brushes are a huge headache mainly because they shed hair and lose their shape quicker than quality brushes. The types of brushes you purchase really depend on the type of painting you plan on doing: landscapes, portraits, impasto work, etc., all call for certain types of brushes. You will only learn this over time as you become more experienced and develop your own style. For starters, I would purchase a few flats of various sizes, a few small rounds for detailed work and a fan for blending. Make sure to also purchase a good brush cleaner and preserver. I use the Marx Brush Care System for cleaning and preserving my brushes and it works great.

Oil Paints - Oil paint also varies in price and quality. There are some very good paints on the market today. I prefer to work with Grumbacher Artist O ils, but Winsor & Newton oil paints are also quite popular. There are different grades of paint. There are student grade paints and professional grades. My own preference is to work with the professional grades, as the colors are more brilliant than student grade paints. I guess it's ok in the beginning to purchase a lesser quality for learning and experimentation. I guarantee once you try the professional grade paints, you will never go back to student grade. This is my opinion of course. Artist color choices vary. Some prefer a limited palette of only a few colors, while others prefer to have a variety of different colors at their disposal.

Here are the colors of my palette. You do not have to buy these exact colors, as this is only my preference that has developed over time.

Cadmium Yellow Light
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Red Light
Cadmium Orange
Burnt Sienna
Raw Sienna
Burnt Umber
Alizarin Crimson
Sap Green
Thalo Blue
Ivory B lack
Titanium White

Oil Painting Mediums - Medium preference varies greatly from artist to artist. I think every artist has his or her own mixtures and formulas. I myself use linseed and poppy oil. Linseed oil has a tendency to yellow the colors so I do not mix it with my lighter color mixtures. For lighter color mixtures, I use poppy oil as it has less of a tendency to yellow. There are other mediums available. I recommend that you try your own mediums and recommendations from artists until you find something that produces the results you are after.

Canvas and Other Supports - The popular support that many artists work with is cotton canvas, but there are other supports available. Some other choices are linen canvas, boards and canvas paper for instance. You could also buy rolled canvas and stretch your own if desired. This again is something you have to experiment with until you find a support that works best with your style of painting. I recommend sta rting with a few smaller to medium sized canvases. I work with FREDRIX Red Label Stretched Cotton Canvas. Red Label is a medium textured quality canvas excellent for use with oils and a popular choice amongst oil painters.

Palette - Palettes are made from various materials including glass, wood, plastic, and even paper. My palette of choice is the BOB ROSS Clear Palette. This palette is wonderful. It's easy to clean, holds a lot of paint with adequate room to mix your colors. It's also priced quite reasonably.

Easels - Easels are also available in various sizes and price ranges. You will need a good stable easel to paint on; otherwise your canvas will wobble around when you paint. This can be quite frustrating. You also need to decide whether you will be painting primarily in your studio or if you are an outdoor painter. If you are painting outdoors you should consider purchasing a French easel. The JACK RICHESON Academy Verona Half French Easel is a good buy. If you work primarily in your studio, then you have a lot of easels to choose from. I personally use a STANRITE 500 Classic Aluminum Easel. It's an excellent easel that is both lightweight and sturdy. It sets up easily and can be folded for easy transport.

I truly hope this article has helped. Happy Painting and God Bless!

Magic Lines of Uli Art Style

Uli is an expression of the peoples capacity for creative design, which is firmly rooted in their myths and their experience of life in the past, present and future. At its best, it is an expression of their synthetic present, the epic of their search for a new order in the contemporary world. It is my traditional art style, which I have fallen in love with all over again and it is a privilege to share uli with you in my works. It has been shown that the knowledge of uli motifs and symbols and their application enables one to identify the traditional Igbo artifacts, giving validity to the peoples aesthetic intelligence and judgment. This culture is one of the first known cultures of the world in the recorded archeologically facts to have done bronze casting. (Igboukwu bronze).

Uli symbols may be said to show graphically how the organic forms grow outwards from the core of those elements to point, line, triangle, square and circle that are universal to the concentric circle at the periphery, which contains reflections of everyday world as seen by the artists. Just as the inner circle reflects the uncommon reality or ritual reality of the cultural existence, so the outer circle is in contact with the human and ecological reality, which it expresses.

Artistic activities at Enugu formed part of the early post-1960 independence developments in the country. There was the growing local and international popularity of Nigerian novelists, dramatists, Poets, literary critics, architects, artists, and musicians, and scholars. Interesting collaborations took place among those in the literary performing, and visual arts, particularly in southern Nigeria. The efforts and artistic lives of these minds sowed a flourishing seed for an uncommon global harvest. I give thanks to God for these great minds, your outstanding contributions will not be forgotten.

Uli creations relied heavily on drawing skills whose content is based largely on Igbo culture, particularly female body and wall painting called uli and on Igbo tales, ceremonies, and beliefs. The revival of interest in uli through contemporary art had begun with Uche Okeke in the 1960s, when Nigeria's independence produced a growing sense of freedom from colonial restraints on cultural tradition. It fully developed among teachers and students in the 1970s at the University in Nsukka and was linked to renewed interest in Igbo culture after the destructive Biafran War.

Traditional uli motifs, now rarely painted on human bodies or walls, have a strong linear, often curvilinear, quality. The art makes use of contrasts between positive and negative space, its images at times appearing as sky constellations. Ulis lyrical qualities express harmony and brevity. It is art style that has often been created in freedom and spontaneity. Uli is a pride heritage. Uli motifs generally refer to images of everyday Igbo life, farm and cooking tools, pots, plants, birds, animals, the sun, the moon, and the kola nut, though some are pure design. For ceremonial occasions and important events, skilled Igbo female artists painted uli to add beauty to the human body and the walls of buildings and compounds. Uli has made her way in modern social settings; on sculptural surfaces and on paper, board, and canvas, framed and hung on walls in homes, institutions, and galleries of the world.

Magic of Uli Lines, which is an extended dot or a moving point, has very many possibilities, particularly, the quickly drawn one. My drawing explores the evocative and lyrical possibilities of line and derives from Uli. The Uli artist works spontaneously whether on the human body or the wall. There is no question of erasing or cleaning. There is something about the spontaneously executed work, a b reathtaking vitality and freshness that defy description or repetition.

An analysis of Igbo drawing and painting reveals that space, line pattern, brevity and spontaneity seem to be the pillars on which the rich tradition and heritage rests. It is these unique qualities that I strive for, both intuitive and intellectually to assimilate in my work. Intuitively, because during my years of studying and looking at Igbo sculpture, drawing and painting, various aspects of design and recurrent motifs have become internalized in my system and inevitably surface unconsciously in the course of executing my aesthetic challenges. It is perhaps needless to add that the great works of art is a result of the harmonious marriage of intellect and intuition.

Party Music la la lalala la la Will Everyone Be Singing Praise about Your Event?

Many question whether they should try to play Party music at events. There is the ever present fear that it may turn out like junior prom all over again. The boys will be standing on one side of the room and the girls on the other and neither willing to step out onto the dance floor for fear of looking like a dork. If you do play music at your parties you may have to come up with some Games for guests to play to the music or be bold enough to take the first step out on the dance floor and risk looking dorkish to your guests.

A really simple way to get your guests started dancing to start a dance contest for a prize or maybe a dance marathon. Dance marathons were very popular back in the thirties and would make a great addition to a jazz era or Depression era Themed Party. Or the dance contest could fit perfectly with a Disco Party. Some guest is sure to break out in the Robot. These Games help to lighten the mood and once people start to laugh they stop worryin g so much about looking silly, especially if everyone else is enjoying it.

You should decide on your Party music before the Party starts. If you want people to get up and dance it may not cut it to simply turn the radio to your favorite station. There are commercials and DJ's interrupting the music and some songs are just really bad. So sit down and look at some CD's or check for music downloads that way you can plan out what kind of music will play at the Party and in what order. Most people like to dance to something a little bit fast paced; it's good if couples can still dance together to it. Really slow music may cause guests to lose interest and really fast music may be too hard to keep up with.

Case Dismissed A Short Story on Marital Rape

Ankita Irani was an ace Advocate. She was known for her truthful, straightforward and blunt replies. It was taken for granted that if she takes up a case she will Win ! Although an eye sore to the Criminal World but the awe that she carried was too much to defy. She had one motto though Fight for the truth and only the truth.

Her secretary, Susmita, a Junior Trainee Advocate, came to her with a request.and she was very sure that Ankita Madam will keep her request. It was a case of Marital Rape, and Susmita had seen her Madam take up cases of the underdog and how she left no stone unturned to get them justice and she won.

Madam , I have a very interesting case in handthe person is actually a distant relative of mine and its a case of Womans exploitation. said Susmita.

Is it ..Womans exploi tation eh? So you know it already that its a case& you have given it a name as well said Ankita jokingly.

No no madam, actually its a case of Marital Rapeshe is a distant cousin of mine actually.its a sad case.replied Susmita.

How distant? asked Ankita.

Well a lot ..I have hardly met her ..but she happens to be related from my Mothers side.said Susmita.

And what is her complaint? asked Ankita.

Marital Rape.I mean her husband forces her to have sex daily with him.said Susmita reluctantly.

So?! Your cousin wants to have sex every fortnightly or Monthly ..or yearlyhow does she like to chalk out her sex-routine? ask ed Ankita.

Susmita was totally taken aback by the nonchalant attitude of Ankita Madam. She thought that this case would excite Madam a lot and she would jump to take up the case ..but the scenario was totally different !

No..madamactuallyI hardly know her..Susmita said.

Is she educated asked Ankita.

Oh! Ofcourse Madam she has done History Hons from one of Kolkatas most prestigious colleges she got a higher 2nd Division. replied Susmita.

Hmmso she is educated and she has been to a Metropolitan city for higher studies which also means that she is amply exposed to City life right?

Ofcourse madam , she lives near Dumdum which is now included under Kolkata.

So..has she told you her preferred sex-routine? asked madam.

No madam I have not personally met herjust thinking if you would take the case, Ill bring her to you..money is no problem madam her father is a very rich Contractor. replied Susmita.

Then whats her problem? ! Let her divorce that bloke and live happily ever after her father has the money let him help her start afresh let her do some Professional Course or maybe B.Ed. and be independent .and I was thinking that she belongs to some poor family whose parents have wed her off somehow and now living hand to mouth

Oh! No no Madam- they are very rich in fact gave some kilos of gold in dowry as we hear her Uncle is a Goldsmith and they have 3 big shops in barra bazaar.

So basically the victim of Marital Rape is an educated Lady ,bred in metropolitan city, belongs to a rich family right?

Yeahmadam..but you know the divorce is not possible they are orthodox family such things are a taboo in the societysaid Susmita.

Well ,in that case, ask her to be like a door-mat and live sadly ever after with her husbandwhy ? she should thank her lucky stars that her husband is not going to some brothel or not going to watch some dance-balas in night club he is seeking love from his legally wedded wife damn it !!...and what does her family expect the Indian Penal court to do ?! chalk out a sex-chart for her and hand it over to her husband I suppose ?

Well madam.. rumors are such that he ..her husband I mean.. is not all that loyal he is having an affair with some neighborhood lady someones wife during morning hours, he spends time with her while her husband is in office said Susmita.

Morning hours he is spending time with a married desperate housewife !bravo! and when does he go to office may I know? asked Madam.

He is a businessman just delegates the duties and then heads for that Ladys house!

So?! The parents of the educated History honors girl did not find out about the future son-in-law.. and what about his own parents ? they dont stop him fr om visiting that lady?

I suppose they thought that after marriage he would be alright.. so the wedding took place in a haste.

Why?! Were they under the impression that Calcutta University Professors are teaching tantra-mantra to their History honors students that they thought she will heal their son with her magic touch?

Actually madam she is averse to sex she has more of a philosophical bent of mind..she writes poetry as well

And what is his education level? is he a graduate?

I dont think so Madam.. he barely managed to pass Higher Secondary

Oh! Well, so this is where the problem lies a total mismatch a case of dumb parents wedding off their equally dumb daughter to some dumber and lesser educated than her idiot !..and being exposed to films, movies and even blue movies which are easily available nowadays what did she expect of marriage her husband will read out stanzas from some Holy epic? Firstly, her parents should have found out the character and whereabouts of the fellow, then matched the education qualificationsdid they meet ..or how long did they have a courtship period? asked Madam.

Courtship?! Oh! No madam such things are not allowed in such families! They met only twice before marriage and that too with other family members around !

Oh! so such families are not ashamed to talk about their daughters sex life in public knowing very well what a joke they would be in the society eventually! Courtship does not mean jumping on bed its meeting and exchanging viewpoints ,likes and dislikes- if such a thing had happened then this girl would have known that he is not her sort and would have refused him and looked for someone with a philosophical bent of mind there is no dearth of such men in Kolkata at least !said Madam.

No Madam..her age was also increasing she was already 25 and they were looking for a suitable groom for long.

And they found their suitable groom in a sex st arved poodle so very good then why complain? I am sorry Susmita this is a case of an educated , well to do family girl, bred in a metropolitan city who was unfortunately born in a family which is still holding on to age-old ideas about women and her marriageable age ,who did not do a proper homework while selecting their son-in-law and gave away their daughter in a haste as if she was some muck born accidentally to them. Probably its because of their attitude towards girl-child that God gave them this punishment that they will now have to run from post to pillar for getting justice for their daughter !!...and just imagine the nature of the case the most shameful and tabooed of all topics in India Sex Life!...Sorry Susmita from my side I dismiss this case !
