Grandma Always Said And Did These Things:

Let me take you back to 1883 and then forward, these saying were very popular in my grandmas day: 1.Its a great life if you dont weaken. (Hold on for dear life)

2. It will all come out in the wash. (Meaning truth will prevail when all is said and done)

3. It wont be long now; said the monkey when he caught his tail in the wringer. (Meaning his tail got caught and shortened)

4. its all over now and the babys name is Anthony. (Just what it says)

5. Annie over. (a game where kids got on either side of the house and threw the ball over the house).

6. The old Homestead was a four room house and acreage, sledding was the pastime in the winter months; (the old house was high on a hill which made the perfect place to sled, if you did not hit a tree.) I am the one who hit the tr ee.

7. The bathroom, what bathroom? (The bathroom that had no lid on the toilet and open to all the winter cold you could want, it was called an outhouse.)

8. Coal- oil lamps what in the world is that? (No electricity.)

9. The old wood stove for cooking food and warming water for a bath in the old tub. (No modern stove of today, gee, do we have it made now!)

10. The campfire where all the adults went at night and talked until the wee hours of the morning. (I am the one that got the June bug in my hair which my daddy had to cut out; his claws were in my scalp.)

11. My grandma favorite recipes were making ice-cream out of snow you just mix sugar with it and it was downright delicious.

12. Making tomato soup with fresh tomatoes and milk and butter.

13. Grandmas old fashioned potato soup, potatoes, milk and butter and I almost forgot the onion.

14. School was a good long walk every morning even in the winter. (No school bus picking you up.)

15. The school house was one room with a wood stove for warming hands and feet. (No going to different rooms for classes, one teacher taught all the grades.)

No one today could match the simple life of grandma; she even had to milk cows before school. That was the life kids!
