Elmo History and Facts

Elmo has been a Fun character on Sesame Street for many years with his friends, the cookie monster, Big Bird, the Grouch, and even Bert and Ernie. A red furry Muppet he is probably about the age of a child in preschool. Elmos got googly eyes and a vibrant orange nose. Elmo has grown in popularity since he was first introduced on Sesame Street and now hosts the last segment on the Childrens show called Elmos World. You may remember the famous Tickle Me Elmo doll that came out a few years ago. It was the hottest Toy of the Christmas season at the time and flew on the shelves in stores because so many parents bought it for their kids.

The Elmos World segment is created for toddlers and features Elmo in his room which is a white space filled with crayon drawings on his furniture. Elmos world also contains his pet Goldfish, which is a real goldfish, and silent characters including Mr. Noodle, and Mr. Noodles Brother Mr. Noodle. In Elmos world, Elmo feels very safe and is able to express himself creatively with his crayons. Parents will often notice that Elmo will refer to himself in the third person. His simple sentences are helpful to Children in learning basic grammar and language. Elmos parents are named Gladys and George but they are rarely if ever seen on the show. He also has grandparents and he has a sister.

Other Elmo dolls have been released including, Hokey Pokey Elmo, Limbo Elmo and Lets Pretend Elmo, the newest Elmo Toy to be released will be the Extreme Elmo, expected to be a Big hit this winter.

Elmo has been on many television specials besides spending time on Sesame Street he has been on Martha Stewart, starred with Emril in a cooking show, and actually testified before cong ress to urge support of music education and other shows.
