An 80's Disco theme Party would please anyone who lived through the 80's Disco phase. Remember the music, clothes, and the movies that defined the era? Men in polyester (yes, I said polyester) suits with wide collars and matching vests, brightly patterned nylon shirts, and shoes with chunky high heels, and women in bright, body hugging, nylon dresses, with hair so heavily sprayed it would withstand gale force winds, remember nights underneath ceilings with glittery revolving balls, while a live disc jockey played albums on a turntable, defining the time when dances like The Hustle, The Bump and The Latin Hustle Bump were all the rage, and dance contests were held at every Disco in town.
Not everyone has Disco era clothing available, but you can find a virtual treasure trove at a vintage used clothing store, or even your local Salvation Army, Goodwill, or other thrift shop. Good 80's items to look for are head bands, funky hats and shoes, and leg warmers.
An 80's style, Disco theme Party will not only revive nostalgia at an adult Party, it is tremendous fun for a teen Party as well. If renting a Party place (a skating rink, Party room at a local restaurant, etc.) is out of the question, hopefully you will have a place you can open up, by moving furniture around, so there is plenty of room for a DJ and dancing, and a place to hang the infamous Disco ball, because all you wanna do is dance, dance (sorry, I couldnt resist it...) Big hair contests, and costume contests are great ideas, as are Disco dance classes, culminating in dance contests, where winners get the prize.
Add in some neat Party Favors like cheap sun glasses (remember I wear my sunglasses at night...) glow necklaces or bracelets, and lots of glitzy, glittery, confetti everywhere, plenty of drinks and finger foods, and you have a Disco theme Party that is sure to be a huge hit, while everyone takes a stroll down memory lane, at your 80's theme Party!
