The name of this series of articles is Mestory History because it is about me, Rascal. Yet it is His, God's, story. All recorded writings and oral traditions involving His created beings on this planet, Earth, are rightfully classified as History. I suspect the person who first coined the word, History, had the revelation of this fact in so selecting this name which is normally used in reference to records involving earlier events, activities, and in the lives of His people here. I am but thankful that my name is recorded in His Book Of Life.
I was a child of a promise. My mother first gave birth to my sister, Rita. Five years later, she gave birth to my brother, Robert. When my mother became pregnant a third time she did as her husband wanted, she had an illegal Abortion. Not too long afterwa rd, mother became pregnant again, with me. When my father, Clarimont Earl Miles, told my mother to have another Abortion, Mildred Anna Heck Miles refused.
I made a promise to God that I would never have another Abortion, Buddy she said with unquestioned resolve.
Just chalk this one up to me, Mildred, dad forcefully respondedcertain that his directive would settle the matter. Having been raised a Mormon, Dad believed that when, as Mother had insisted, they had married in the Roman Catholic Church, any chance for him of an eternal after-life was long gone. Especially, as he had signed a piece of paper agreeing that any ch ildren of their sacramental union would be raised in his wife's faith. His wife had never defied him before.
I will not, Bud! If this means that we must get a divorce, we will do that. I promised God. You didn't! The priest wouldn't even grant me absolution for my other horrible Abortion. I cannot even receive Holy Communion, Buddy. Mother never so much as wavered in her resolve.
I hope that you know what you are saying, Mildred. We have two children already. What makes you think that we can afford to have another one? You're just being stubborn, Mildred!
No, Buddy, I'm not. But, I am going to have this child! I can take in laundry, work cleaning other people's houses, or I'll find some other job, if you believe that we need more money. We'll be just fine, Bud!
I just hope you kn ow what you're getting us into, Mildred. With those final words, the issue was settled.
On October 15, 1947, in what is now called Baker City, Oregon, I was born into this world. While I have no recall of this event, I was later told that my mother was very happy, while my father was horrified by my obvious Birth defect. It was a lump on the upper rim of my right ear. Dad insisted that it should be removed. It never has been. Now, as my ears have continued to grow for 58 years, the small abnormality is barely visible. The 70 plus decibel hearing loss in both my ears I inherited from my watchful mother, was not discovered until my arrival home.
