Portrait Painting

There are many reasons why portraits are painted, most of which pertains to the sitter, the person whose portrait you will paint. The sitter would probably want to establish a public image and you, as the artist, would do well to emphasize the status, looks, and personality.

A portrait is also meant to explore the qualities of the sitter that normally would not show in his or her day to day activities. And a portrait is made to have a souvenir of a loved one, who is either absent or dead.

There is no correct way to do a portrait. And there is no fool-proof technique that will assure the painter to produce a likeness to the sitter. There are, however, several things to keep in mind when painting a portrait.

Most portraitists feel comfortable in putting oil to canvass after they have done several sketches of the sitter. Drawing the sketches will help you understand the things you see and how to translate them into two-dimensional lines.

Sometimes , you will find easy strokes and sometimes you will discover that finding that right line is difficult. Nevertheless, when you move the final canvass, remember to use chalks for broad sketches and use pencils for detailed sketches.

Normally, two thirds of the canvass is the maximum limit that the subject may cover. But you must not make your subject too small that there would be many wide spaces you would be hard pressed to fill in.

Make sure that the source of light will fall on the sitters face in such a way that light and shadows bestow strength and solidity to the face. As much as possible, avoid drawing the full face. Instead, focus on the expressive details, such as the eye folds and the mouth.

Similar to other oil paintings, you must paint the shadows first, in order to establish broad structure. The nose is the ideal spot to begin. Shadows should have similar colors with the background. In areas where a shadow and light meet, include a touch of color. If you believe that the face lacks structure, deepen the shadows. To bring cheeks and chin forward, paint in warm colors.

While you give attention to the background, you must also remember that the backgrounds should not be more prominent than the subject. Use relatively neutral hues.

Romancing San Francisco End Chapters: The Surprise

The Surprise

Many things had happened to me in San Francisco, and now I got a letter in the mail saying I had to either be drafted in/or out of, California, or go back home to Minnesota and be drafted, and so I chose to make my freedom last a while longer by telling the draft board, I was on course for home. Realizing it was July, l969, and Id leave in the middle to last part of August and most likely once home take a few months to go see whomever I had to, or wait for my letter from the draft board. I didnt mind, it wasnt the end of the world, just the end coming to my voyage here in San Francisco, and to be quite fair with the whole deal I told myself it was time. The Manager at Lilli Ann was not told the truth, or for that matter no one but Goesi knew in San Francisco I was being drafted into the Army. Im sure the black belts felt a whole lot more secure after I would leave. As always, Goesi was as gracious as the day is long. A little sad I believe, and di sappointed things did not work out as he thought they would. But then, life does not always work that way; and that he knew.

It was the 25th of July and I was to go home on the last week of August, around the 21st. I walked into Sammies, everyone smiled, took a straight posture, not much different from what I was used to. I hadnt even told the folks at the bar what my plans had entailed.

The old couple came over and sat by me, as I ordered a beer and got a sandwich and come chili.

Chick, said the old man, and his wife by his side, not sure if to look or not.

Yaw, whats up?

He said as a father telling his son:

We all really like you here, and bringing your mother was quite the surprise. We all want to thank you that you would think of us in such a manner.

Oh, but I do, you are my family away from home, that is you and Goesi. He smiled as if he really did not want to go any further with this. I didnt look around to see any fac es, thinking it was something he had on his mind, more or less, you know -personal.

Yaw, is there something else, I asked.

You could say that. Let me explain. You kind of know a few people here, and everyone knows you. Matter of fact, every time you come in, Ted and Joe, kind of signal everyone. I looked a bit bewildered, what was he implying.

Go on, I said with my eyebrows us.

Chick, were all gay here! I couldnt swallow, now I looked around, Everyone?

Yes, everyone.

But what about you and your wife, youre not gay?

Oh yes we are, you might say bi-sexualthough

What is that, I asked.

Chick listen ----that is when people have certain preferences for both sex, but may like the company of their spouse and are willing to share her or him.

Boy of boy, I dont know what to say, but everyone looks

Chick, they look non-active because of you. They like you so much they stop everything, every-time you come; --they p lay a role I suppose one can say, for you. But we got thinking it wasnt right to continue with it.

Oh, yaw, I suppose, I said not knowing what to say. But you know I still like everyone here. I really like you and your wife. You know Id never let anyone hurt you.

Chick, you got to do what you got, and if you want to come to the bar, wed love to have you here, and no one is going to bother you, but if you cant well understand, but we will not be playing anymore games with you.

I got drafted, I got to go home in a few weeks, but you know, maybe if I had a lot of time left I could adjust, but Im sorry I just cant at the moment. II, Im not sure what to say, but I feel embarrassed that everyone had to go out of their way for me, how very kind. Yet I cant come back, you know that.

I figured as much, said Mr. Palace, --then Mrs. Places added but I want to write you, keep in contact for as long as youd like. I know with going in the Army, you might head on to Vietnam, and it would be nice to keep track of you.

I got to leave, I didnt turn around, not sure why, but I was happy. I would receive letters every Christmas for the next five years from the old couple.

A Big Event

It was August 20th, l969, I bought a ticket on a bus to go to Southern California to visit my brother, and he and I were going back to Minnesota, together. And as I got ready, I got thinking about all the things that happened, especially this past year or so. Just a few days ago in some place in New York called Woodstock some 400,000-kids had an anti-war gathering of some kind; they called it a festival of sorts. I never heard of such a gathering before. Ive seen pictures on the T.V. and it was raining and people were smoking and pissing and there were traffic jams, and a lack of food and water.

Some of the groups that were playing there were the Grateful Dead, whom I heard about, but never paid much heed to, and Jimi Hendrix , he fell into the same category, the only one I knew, and thought could sing halfway decent was Janis Joplin, and she looked more like the gals in San Francisco than in New York, but I guess folks said she was from around here.

When I met my brother in Montclair, we took a quick trip down to Mexico, and then headed back to good old St. Paul. It wasnt long before they got me into the Army, October, l969. Mike my brother went out to the induction center in Minneapolis with me. I guess the way I seen things was, I was about to have another adventure, and the Army was just as good as any place matter of fact, free transportation all the way.

Afterward

San Francisco in those days was where it was happening. Where the music seem to seep out of, or from and penetrate the rest of the United States. I was many things in San Francisco, and if it taught me anything it taught me I could become, chase a dream, and by accident, things do happen. By being there, being available, things do happen, just someone liking you for whom you were, could open doors, as long as your door was open. If all I had done was meet Goesi, my main objective would have been achieved, and so everything else was a plus. Oh yes, there were hardships I am not bringing out, but what for, it is not the crust of bread or the topping of a cake we are looking at, notwithstanding, but rather, the nice ending we all want, and it did end up that way. Yes I did go to Vietnam, but that is another story. Incidentally, I was told I was given orders to go to Augsburg, Germany, I wonder how it will be there. If you really want to know, read the book, A Romance in Augsburg.

Tangor's Quest!

Tonos, was quite a long distance from Poloda, and in the early l940s, Tangor, was granted permission to go on a mission there, granted by Eljanhai, the Great I, of the planet. He left behind memories of Yamoda, and the empire of Kapara, and also of Morga Sagra, along with his friend Don. In the interim, he had worked on what was called the Amplifier, and was said to have perfected it, and now his flight was in motion. This was of course, 64-years after his lift off from Poloda. Yes, sixty-four long years. The Editor left for us his note saying: I wonder if Tangor ever reached that little planet....

A good question indeed was: I wonder if (he) ever reached that little planet, but it couldnt be answered until recently, I mean, until a few days ago. He is now an old man of course: old and tired, worn out you could say. The Editor now long dead, of course could not update the folks of the 1940s, of which Tangor was said to have been killed in WWII, he was a flyer. But he wasnt, not at least in the sense we would acknowledge death to be. The day I received his message from the Earth Space Station, was on November 13, 2005, and it is today, the 15th, it has taken a few days to get this story straight. He has come back from the Farthest Star, was the first words given by the commandant of the Space Station, before I could interview him. He said (Tangor): the night he left, he kissed Yamoda for the first time, then left in the morning. He never saw her again. His ship was outfitted for a long, very long voyage, and he left the following morning, as I have already said, given permission by the Commissioner of War at the time. Thus, there was two wars going on, one on Poloda, and one on Earth.

Handon Gar went along on the voyage with Tangor, but had died several days into the flight of poisonous inhalationthe result of some toxic gas that seeped out of the storage room, and into and throughout the ventilation system of the aircraft. It was a miracle Tangor was not killed. Somehow, by some mysterious form of life, perhaps a spiritual force, he was awaken in time, and quickly he locked up the chamber air tight, and repaired the leak.

The amplifier worked well for a few days, then it lost its energy, perhaps by the lack of the sun; whatever it was, I gathered from our conversation, it was transforming the suns energy source, into the energy the craft needed for all its operations; condensing its fuel supply, as well as remaking oxygen, and fuel for he ship to operate. And as time went on, it seemed to have a mind of its own, especially within the ship, as it was pulled into the orbit of a huge object: Tangor explained to me, the object (its name unknown at the time) was larger than a comet, and perhaps a planetoid. Hence, his ship fell into the tight orbit of the planetoid circling two suns, and to boot, going through an asteroid belt, and crisscrossing two solar systems. Again I repeat, the ship s eemed to gain energy closer to the sun, like a comet would, and the farther away it went, it lost its drive, its magnetic pull; thus, it could never pull itself out of the circulating motion of the planet and its moon. He had picked up a transmission from both the planets, or better put, the planet and its moon, and found out the name of the two masses: the planet being, Moiromma, and its moon, Ice-cap. Two frozen, or almost frozen, masses in outer space.

He had found out also, Earth was beyond these two planets, and beyond the asteroid belt, and tried aimlessly to pull his spacecraft out of the magnetic hold the planet had on it, but could never to it. That is, not for sixty-odd years anyhow.

The Worm in the Sky

And so it was, the spacecraft, lingered in the sky for sixty years, as the inhabitants of both planets cast their eyes upon it, year after year. It was caught between both huge bodies in space. The magnetic force of Moiromma had less pull tha n Ice-cap, and thus, Tangors ship was pulled closer to that frozen body. Sometimes it seemed it was going to rip the small spacecraft apart. For all these years, it was a tug-of-war, so Tangor told me several times as we talked. He was most surprised the clarity in our conversation, and remarked on how beautiful it was to see earth again. He had learned the barbaric customs of both Moiromma and Ice-cap, and explained them fully to me; and thus, appreciated Earth, after having known these two planets by proxy.

He explained his escape, saying: when the forces between both planets were at its weakest, which was when they were at their farthest distance from one another, (which took place several months ago), the ship having been filled by the sun with energy through its amplifier, a comet came by, and he (he being: Tangor) took advantage of the moment by aiming his ship at the comet, which blocked the pull of Moiromma, on his ship (and the suns lightly pull, also), and the thrust was so great of the comet, and with full speed from the spacecraft, it pulled Tangors craft right out of its orbit around Ice-cap: the spacecraft nearly crashed into the comet, but it was too fast, and left Tangor bouncing about in the Asteroid Belt. Thus, avoiding a collision, He navigated out of this belt, and on towards Pluto, and then past Neptune, and onto earth. Ah! But the craft did not land there, as you and I of course know now, it landed at the United States Space Station, where Tangor is being treated this very moment for medical causes. This was what happened, although I am leaving much of the story out (for another time), and only telling you the basic details. He said hed contact me in the near future to tell me, so I can tell you of some of his other exploits during his time in, what he calls, captivity.

6 Simple Steps to Becoming A HOT Guitar Player!

Learning how to play Guitar well is not easy. There are so many methods and so many conflicting opinions, it makes it difficult to know what to do.

But the simple fact is, if you want to be the best you can, as soon as you can, then all you need to do is - copy what the pro's do...

Master the Basics!

Mastering the basics means being able to play in all keys. Being able to transpose any song to any other key - on the spot preferably.

Did you know that 95% of Guitarists DON'T master the basics. Oh yes, they mean to get around to it, but they hardly ever do.

Why is that? Well, it's because they think it's borin g, complicated and too much hard work. And most of all - no fun! And mostly they were right. Well, it needn't be that way. Mastering the basics can be a lot of fun if you go about it in a methodical set-by-step way.

What does mastering the basics entail?

There are 6 basic steps you need to follow:

1. Learn the names of all notes on all strings, one string at a time.

2. Learn how to construct a C Major scale.

Basic must-know Guitar theory. Easy stuff.

3. Learn how the chords of the major scale are made and what they are... their names etc. C Dm Em F G Am Bdim.

Basic chord construction knowledge.

4. Learn the triad patterns for the C major scale all over the fret board.

Triads are simple 3-note chords. Easy and fun to learn and play.

5. Learn to play those triads with common chord progressions.

Learn to play and apply the triads to the most common chord progressions that fit thousands and thousands of songs.

6. Learn to do step 5 in all keys.

Once you can do steps one to five in the key of C, it's real easy to learn it for the other 11 major keys.

Hint: It's much easier than you think. All the patterns are exactly the same as what you learn for C major. You don't have to learn any new patterns. Cookie cutter stuff.

It really is not hard at all. All you need is a methodical step-by-step method that makes sense and is easy and fun to use.

My Computer My Darling My Love and I

A month has passed! A long and what would have been an insufferable month but for my Computer in my apartment in this unfriendliest of places called Huainan in the Anhui province of the People's Republic of China. Don't get me wrong. China is generally a very friendly place, especially to foreigners - at least at a superficial level. And, who has the time or need to probe deeper? But Huainan? Huainan's another story! It was among the world's ten-most crime-infested cities and it held on to its position for a long time until the powers-that-be stepped in, cleaned up their act, and the streets of hoodlums.

When I first arrived here, my students advised caution. 'Don't go to Caijiagang alone,' they said. Caijiagang is one of Huainan's unfriendlier-still neighbourhoods and one where the hangover from the criminal past lingers on. 'Don't go out alone at night' and 'don't get into any argument with any strangers,' were other recommendations. I did it all and, thankfully, s till survived. Well, maybe Huainan is not as unfriendly as to cause me physical injury but it's unfriendly enough to leave emotional scars. Well, not really emotional emotional!

Anyway, in this unfriendliest of places, with all my acquaintances having left for their homes, leaving the vast university campus practically to me alone, I had little choice but to stay cloistered in my apartment. My broken rib didn't help matters either. But, my Darling Computer waited for me every single day. She waited whenever I left her to go out for a stroll, a meal or whatever else. And, when I would return and touch her, she would smile, her eyes blinking like lights, and she would sing in her own sweet, not-so-melodious voice, a voice that, nonetheless, was music to my lonely ears. In this unfriendliest of places, I had my very friendly Darling - my Computer!

But my Darling is aging. She's already something like sixty (oops, six, I should say!) and she's been with a few others. But, she never says anything about them, never makes me feel less Loved and never compares my skills against theirs. So, when I am with her, I think she's mine, and only mine!

My Darling's a little slow! I thouch her once, press, you-know-where and then I have to wait while she hums and sends the right message to her bird-brain that her Lover is ready for her. I wait patiently. No point rushing her, I know. That might anger her and cause her to lose interest. Oh, my Darling! But, I know what I need to do to keep her in good humour. Wait, and then, when she's ready, start! Easy!

I am a simple bloke and know little about what goes on in my Darling's little peabrain and my Sweetheart realizes that. I never force too many tasks on her and she reciprocates by doing the simple things I need her to do - though sometimes, she does them rather slowly. But, then, some things in life must not be rushed. Some things in life must be relished and enjoyed at a relaxed leisurel y pace.

Hey Darlin', Compy, I luv Ya!

Italian Renaissance Art Period and Artist History

This major cultural rebirth and revival began in Italy during the 1300's and spread throughout Europe until around 1650.

Here are a few of the historical milestones during this Period of great change.

Lorenzo de Medici (MED-uh-chee) (1449-1492) was a prominent ruler of Florence, Italy who was also a strong patron of many great Artists of that era:

Sandro Botticelli created the well know painting: The Birth of Venus.

Leonardo Da Vinci created the paintings: Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

Michelangelo sculpted David and Pieta. He designed the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica and painted the Sistine Chapel frescoes.

As a young man, Michelangelo lived with the Medici family in Florence for a Period.

In 1492, Columbus was credited for the discovery of America which was named after the ships navigator, Americus Vaspucci.

The Reformation of the 1500's was a religious movement which opposed the sale of Indulgences by the Roman Catholic Church. Church authorities would absolve and pronounce someone free of guilt for a specific monetary price. The reformation movement opposed the sale of these Indulgences and this set the foundations for the Protestant churches. MArtin Luther, John Calvin and John Knox were leaders in this movement. Henry VIII declared himself head of the Christian Church in England.

During the Renaissance, the Arts, architecture, literature and science received a new breath of life and relief from the relatively bleaker Periods of the dark and middle ages.

Lamps, paintings, furniture, architecture and home decor items of all kinds will forever be influenced by Renaissance Art Period. A lamp, painting or sculpture showing two people touching hands brings a vision of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel and The Creation of Adam.

The Amuc and Inca Hydra (The Second Adventure Now in English and Spanish)

(A short Story, Dedicated to Joseito Arrieta from Radio Station 91.7 Super Latina in Huancayo)

Forward: When Gilmore Anquist disappeared, no one knew quite where to start looking for him. That was a almost three decade ago. I knew him quite well, that is, as well as anyone I suppose, for an American chapone that was wandering in Latin America for about two-years. He told me he was looking for the mystery of the Amuc. I thought he weas lying at the time, and was up to no goodsome kind of hoax, it seemed to be a riddle at first, then I started to get these diary notes sent to me, the ones I am going to put together and share with you. The story takes place in parts of Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Colombia; and although these are just short notes of a man who turned into an Amuc, it is much deeper than that, should you not have read the first adventure of Gilmore Anquist, you will have missed a little information, but not enough to make this not worthwhile reading. The one location he liked the most was in the area of Huancayo, so I heard from many of its residences thereabouts; in the Mantaro Valley region, up and around San Jeronimo, by the old 16th century church, San Sebastian.

The Amuc (By Gilmore Anquist ((diary notes))

From the first story: The Amuc: The little Amuc smiled a sneering smile; I was a new creature to him, as he was to me. He spit out sounds I never heard, as I suppose I did to him, two languages that hung on smiles and body language. But I understood him to say, We have a kingdom down here, and you are welcome, yet I do not think you will be leaving. And of course he was right. And in his face and hand gestures, he implied: I must hurry along, the funeral was taking place, and like a candle blown out, he was gone. I cannot remember for the life of me when that was; I mean, was it a year ago, or five, or perhaps ten?

The Second Adventure: The Amuc, and Inca Hydra

Out of space and time , I had wandered aimlessly in the colossal mineral mines of the Andes, and salt mines of Colombia, tunnels that reached from Boliva to Peru, all the way under Ecuador, right under Bogota, Colombia. Here is where I met Inca Hydra, she said she was born in the Huancayo, region of Peru, better known as the Mantaro Valley area. Then her parents migrated to the salt mines of Bogotia, some ten years ago; so she told me, thus, I had been wandering in these mines, tunnels for fifteen years. I was a loner for the most part, and had been shrunk to the size of about two feet from close to six feet tall. It was that, or die by the hands of the Amuc, there were two Amuc cultures down here. One, I call the Angelic Amuc, more friendlier than the other, the Iron Winged Amuc. The Angelic Amuc have blond hair and guard the tunnels for the most part, for the miners. They are friendly, and like to joke, and Hydra is from that race of Amuc. And then there are the more demonic, or cruel Amuc, the gray and black Amuc whom like to scare you to death, more like goblins. Let it also be known to the readers, there are ghouls in these tunnels, should you be like me, fall into such a dilemma, and find yourself, such in this underground world; fate does not always play fair, nor does it favor any one person.

So here I was, in the hollow of the earth, under the city of Bogota, and out into the far regions of the city, with my new wife, Inca Hydra, from the tribe of the Angelic Amuc. We had been married now, going on, a year, and we went from lone location to the next like gypsies. She would dance and I would sing, for our food. Be it mushrooms, fresh water, bread or an assortment of foods. I liked mondongo soup, and some of the Amuc made it from corn and cow meat, the only problem was is that they had to creep into some farmers kitchen and steal it, bring it back to the underworld, and thus, it was quite expense, when bartering. But such foods like potatoes were easy to bargain for (sweet potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, worms, lettuce).

Now that time has gone by, I have had ample time to think of course, and I wish to take for the remaining days of my life, only my devoted wife; and writing my diary notes for those who wish to read them in future time. But Hydra wishes to go back to Huancayo, Peru, to live, where the ghouls are fewer, and the Iron Winged Amuc are less than the (Angelic) Blond Haired Amuc. There we will build a home in the Mantaro Valley (San Jeronimo), by an old brickmakers home, called Old Man Augusto, whom at one time the Iron Winged Amuc cornered, but he escaped into the hidden site of a mountain he was carving out and using to make bricks out of. He had hidden there until the Blond Haired Amuc appeared, and rescued him.

In Short: as I look back now, at this second event, or adventure in my life, it again has changed my whole life, as often times events do. Had I not taken this adventure to marry Hy dra, I would have perished within these forbidden roots, within the crust of the earth, no question about it, my life was often in they wit and quickness of Hydra. We have now been married ten years, yes, oh yes, almost twenty-five years have passed since I came to this underground world, and Im aging with the Amuc, and you may very well call me a half breed, for I am just that. And most of the underground world sneer at me, but my lovely wife theyd kill for, should she accept the many offers to marry, should I abruptly die. But this is all I can write now, Im 60-years old now, my wife, but 27-years old.

Note: written during the month of October, 2005; while traveling through South America (Peru and Colombia).

Curse The Abyss Worm Chapters 5 and 6

5

At the Garden of Eden, Snakes had Legs

I did mention beforein the first tapesnakes did have legs at onetime, did I not? And so what we see is when God gets mad, he gets real mad, and in one case, took His anger out on the snakes as well as women whom now have to endure childbirth (where at one time, this was not so), before Eve ate the apple or pear, or cucumber, or whatever she atethat is: thus, no one really knows, -- whatever it was, I think the child baring before the apple incident, was much like sleeping in the grass and, oh well, waking up the next day and a child was laying next to you, of which of course was not painful; yes, not painful until after the apple-eating event took place, and labor was thrust upon man: that is, man has to work for a living nowwhereas, before this event, he was much like the animals on the Galapagos Islands: that being, free from all duressand was for the most part lazy; man did nothing to deserve this of course, other than standby and let Eve do as she pleased, and to keep peace, well, ate a little of it. In a similar manner, it was like the 200-angelic beings wanting assurance that if they were to dominate the earth, it would be one for all and all for one, yet, it was not the unpardonable sin for Adam and Eve, as it was for the angelic beings; and Adam, he was simply naming the animals for the most part (at which time, everything was given to him, just walk the garden and pick the fruit). Well, what he learned that day was, dont mess with the Big Man.

You see Anna: --we no longer get the fruit free because of another persons sins; a little like the curse on you. In light of these facts, we see the Crazy Worm, as I have explained to youin words and depiction, infecting humankind, at will all most. As if it and Satan had a pack, an agreement of sorts. What would be the most benedictional thing I could do, or for that matter any man could do for mankindI do believe isis to find that damn worm, and quarantine him, or it? But that most likely will not happen. I had to say it, but if we cant even find a few terrorist out there, how are we going to find a worm that has been marching around for a very long time; unless that is, Satan and his demons capture it, put it under a lid, and use it on humankind: in place of Ginny Pigs, which I would bet, if he didnt do this already, hes thinking of it at this moment. But it is long-lived, this worm of sorts, and for the most part is a virus in itself, and possibly can even infect demons, as well as Satan himselfwho really knows [? So that might not even be a good step, that is, to try and capture him, or possibly even a good scenario for one to deliberate on; yet even though it is an unmeant statement by me--: save for the fact, I have to conceptualize it, it should be brought to your attention so you can see the seriousness of this miniature crawling and living tiny crab like creature.

Again we come to the steps of the God Room, and ask:

Why did God allow this to happen, I sound now a little like Mark Twain, and Job who both questioned God as if they were smarter than He, trying to figure out why He [He being: God does what he does. And of course, we are all ready to blame him for our own foolishness, our own scornful needs and deeds, as we do to Satan also. Grasshoppers, that is what we areyou know, just grasshoppers trying to make the Master Planner accountable to us, and Satan; of course Mark Twain tried to do that with Shakespeare as well, that is make him accountable to him as he wrote a book on him, and Methuselah also he wrote about, and I could go on, but he did write a few good books; one story about a frog that couldnt jump, and about a boy named Finn and Sawyer, that painted a fence and helped a Blackman out somewhere along the line; I think he was feeling sorry for himself for possibly being a coward in the Civil War, who knows; you know trying to ma ke up for running away from the conflict. And I do not want to plant seeds of distress in you as Bram Stoker would in reading his book called: Dracula, but lets let that lay where it falls, Job was not much better in the questioning area either, but was in the love area, for he did love God, and if Mark Twain did, it was a secret. And so maybe God left the worm wiggle his way out of the Abyss to cut our lives short; or possibly to see how we handle life per se; or to see if we appreciated the gift of life he gave, save for the fact, we have to work for every damn thing. Whatever, it is not much better than asking eccentric questions about people who are eccentrics. To be quite honest with you, I could give a rats-ass, way He did, if He did, do what ever He did do, or has done; He has his reasons and He is God, now who can question Him? No one (a rhetorical question, I know). Kind of reminiscent to the USA in a way, who at this point in time, for who can question her again a rhetorical question, for the answer is NO ONE similar to, to Roma at one time, who could question Rome? No one; and that is good enough for me. In the vein of Satan, he has his reasons also, and although I can figure out possibly more on the level of why he wants revenge, more so than why God does what he does: meaning, some things are a little plainer to see or figure out than others. And again I say, but pointing to a different figure, I could care less about Satan; but in this scenario, it is the worm I care about, and as I have related it, not sure why he was created in the first place. It is like trying to figure out why Karl Marxs created Communism, breeding the thought to mankind that money was their down fall, and marched onto Paris to live the good life. Matter of fact, he was more of a capitalist than a capitalist; yes often times we say one thing and do anotherdepending on who is watching. But if I was to try and look underneath the surface of motives, it might be that it was simply something to keep him busy instead of being drunk all the time (I of course am talking about Marx), he did appreciate his drinking, like Mark Twain, and Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald, lets include William Faulkner also (all drunks with the booze), you know the rest of the old cluster. But again I find myself criticizing for the sake of finding my way through this maze, and my heart is not into thatnot really. So accept my apology if I have hurt your feelings on any one hero I might have mentioned, should any of those Ive mentioned be your hero, for me Id prefer O. Henry, he knew human nature, and now that I think of it, so does the Worm for he had a long time to learn it.

I think Satan [also known as the Adversary, or Lucifer likes people to write and talk about him, an ego thing, I think (even bad advertisement can be beneficial). The more they do the more his ego goes up. But I am involved with the Crazy Worm, am I not? b ut Satan, like God and the Worm, and the four families involved with this curse, and the flood, they all come under the heading of Anna Vipers mysteryoh yes, oh yes they do. And of course you Anna Viper hired me to assist in this very project, to find out and possibly give you advise on how to escape this poisonous curse: or possibly turning this curse around, or even saving your life, should it come to that: as you well know, and will find out soon, in the letters and history Im about to presentyou may find some options to these questions, but first things first. Viruses come in different forms and that is where I am heading now tobe patient Anna, for this is quite involved. In this case that is what will follow, you will witness the cursed-virus come to surface. You may say: no such thing is possible, but dont be too sure of yourself. You will end up believing [pause in the tape you really will.

The Worms Infections

Like a wound up centipede

I have come to the conclusion that the Abyss Worm with its virus, has infected many other things: things I have not mentioned, or even know ofand, and I reiterateand emphasize this: not word: for from it, creeps out a virus as we know it to be, that can transcend into our thinking process. Oh sure: why not, we can go beyond this, that is why I employ the name Virus Curse. It can be given in certain instances by way of a curse, depending on the circumstances, and power of the person; or it can be given through the eyes of the infected; or it can simply touch something and infect it for the rest of its life, such as plants: with its paralyzing acid, such as in that almond tree, or the black madness of henbane, and still the poison in hemlock; how about the lily of the valley used as poison and medicament, I do believe the Abyss Worm had something to do with all these plantsthat is why I am mentioning them. I think what is also true, is that God, Himself has set out a di rty trick on mankind, that being: to kill him as he ventures throughout the world. And Im on Gods side so I must point to God for not stopping the worm.

Now onto a little different area for a moment, the curse of the liar; again I must explain this to my understanding, and to yours: yes, I will try to explain and be specific if I can at the same timefor whom will carry your destiny but yourself; should you let someone else, it will most likely be for their benefit my fair lady Anna. Now I must make clear, this curse is not a virus, but acts like one. Not like the worm virus in any case. But when given properly, I would expect the person receiving it, is open to itif that makes sense. Kind of like watching a movie at night, and when you go to bed, you get a nightmare. Well, how did you get it? Believe it or not, the nightmare demon found an opening and plugged into it, call them triggers if you willor call them whatever you pleasebut you got them, and you try to e xplain it any other way, I think you will come up short; or for that matter anything you wish you can contribute it to: but, nonetheless, we invite the invisible forth dimensional world, this chaotic world into our beings somehow;--to circle our souls (for we have two, yes two, one for reason and one for malice) and block out its light, to plant dark circles, dragging shadows, around our foreheads: -- the dark circles meaning we have lied to God, this is Gods curse. And now he may or may not leave you open for the devils merriment.

Now you see, Anna, the genetic properties of the Crazy Worm, can infect generation after generation once it inhabits [makes its home in its victim; however, he receives his entrance: be it human, animal, plant or whateverso be it with one application and the circumstances; -- again I say, providing the right state of affairs are set forth (and that leads us into having a curse put upon a family or person ((it allows other elements to invad e a person as well; such as, or liken to the worm)). But before I get into the third element of this hypothesiswhich I do believe is more truth than fiction, we have two in the makingcurses that is. The Liar Black Circle Curse [invoked evil, as I had mentioned previously and of course the Crazy Worm nuisance:--you possibly might be asking at this point: how is this all related to me? Hold on to that note, I mean: idea, Ill explain it soon.

Now Anna, we are starting to get somewhere. The mind has to be open to thingsas I have dreadfully tried to amplify to you: and the soul closed to things, if that makes sense. Like hypnotism, you cant be forced to be hypnotized, so they say: you got to be open for it. This is what Im trying to explain to you Anna. Even though you did not commit a sin, the sin in particular that led to the making of the curse (the one your family has handed down from generation to generation, and now to you), you as the offspring of one who had the curse, inherited a defection in your genetic makeupsort of speaking; be it genetic or spirit-filled makeup, the form of the curse was thereis there, it only needed an opening, a trigger (which opens other possibilities); comparable to a horror movie that creates nightmares you might say.

It really sounds more incomplete, unfinished than what it is. As you will see as I unwind this mystery of sorts; Charlies letter will bring some light to the whole matter also, and let us add to this, the: 77-Day Cult, whom will possibly open some doors to this air of mystery. But what the curse means to you should be, or put another way, for you not to be subject to this curse or its full dynamical make up is to: dont have children, and the curse will fade into nothingness, possible. Or second, have a first child, which will be demonic in formand raise it without killing it; for in the past all have been killed by their mothersand thus the curse will have gone forward ahead o f you, missing you completely. But again should you take the second way out, and have the child, once this has happened, the door is open for the Abyss Worm [with its virus to enter that person. Third, we bring to the surface now, now Gods curse, the liar if you so end up being one, with the inherited previous curse: a black circle will appear when the first lie is announced from the persons lips, a black circle around the forehead, it will be seen when you look in the mirror. I know this is quite a vicious circle for one to outlive, unwind or even fathom. But nonetheless, these are some of the options I have come up with for the moment.

(Note to Anna, this is the end to the first part of the second tape; turn the tape around to side two, for I am recording this on both sides again. (Anna now is starting to fall to sleep, as she rubs her eyes, covers her legs with a warm blanket, takes in a deep breath, drinks some warm milk; it was hot but now it has cooled. She figures shell rest a moment then go on and listen to the other side of the tape.))

Emerald is May's Birthstone

If you're still young enough to remember your birthday, you probably also remember the special birthstone assigned to it. But at your age, we bet you don't really know the SIGNIFICANCE of your birthstone and what power the ancients felt would be bestowed about you by wearing it.

May's Birthstone: Emerald
Birthstone Properties: Symbolizes serenity and peace of mind.
Alternative Birthstone: Sapphire

Emerald is the birthstone for May and also the anniversary gemstone for the 20th and 35th years of marriage. Some people believe wearing an emerald brings wisdom, growthpatience. It is perhaps this last attribute that May explain why a gift of emerald for an anniversary -- or any occasion -- is symbolic of love and fidelity.

All Eyes on Emeralds

Emeralds were once prescribed for eye diseases because the green color was believed to be soothing to the eyes. Early stone cutters kept emeralds at their tables to gaze upon as a way to give their eyes a break. Even 21st Century color specialists agree that green is soothing, restful, and relaxing for the eyes.

Today's versatile emeralds continue to be easy on the eyes, used in earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and other body adornment.

The Color of Spring

An emerald shines like green lightning, filling us with the same wonder as the civilizations that came before us. Ancient Egyptians mined emeralds in the eastern desert region 2,000 years before Cleopatras birth, yet today recent finds in North Carolina May provide a new source for quality emeralds in the U.S. Colombia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Madagascar, Nigeria, and Russia are where most emeralds are mined in the 21st Century.

May's birthstone seems perfectly suited to the rites of Spring, matching the colors of the season with its own bottomless green. In fact, the Egyptians engraved emeralds with symbols for Spring foliage to represent eternal youth, and then buried the jewels with their dead. Elsewhere in the ancient world, the Romans associated emeralds with fertility and the rebirth brought about each Spring. Nero, it's said, w atched the gladiators through emerald glasses

The Incas worshiped emeraldsas long as they could. In the 1500's, they were invaded by Spanish Conquistadors who stole their gemstones and pillaged their mines. As a result, many of the world's most magnificent emeralds were lost at the bottom of the sea inside shipwrecked Spanish galleons.

It's Not Easy Being Green

The word emerald is a variation of the Greek word smaragdos, which means green stoneperfectly appropriate for a gemstone that is, in fact, the green variety of the mineral beryl. Emeralds range from strong bluish-green to green hues, although some emeralds have a slightly yellowish green. If the hue is too yellowor too blueit loses its emerald status and is simply a different variety of beryl.

Colombian emeralds are generally agreed to be among the most beautiful gemstones in the world, with a grass-green coloring highlighted by a touch of blue.

Ancient Egyptian Art Timeless and Beautiful Today

Ancient Egyptian Art is one of the most recognized, admired and collected art in the history of the world. From delicate gold jewelry to vivid paintings to massive statues dozens of feet tall, for over 5,000 years Egyptian art has fascinated, delighted and awed generation after generation with its beauty, style and mystery. While genuine ancient pieces of art are rare and extremely valuable, modern Egyptian artists make beautiful art and jewelry that is inspired by some of the greatest recovered works from ancient sites, and which adheres strictly to the styles used by ancient artists. Jewelry in gold and silver with inlaid stones are fashioned after pieces of jewelry recovered from ancient tombs. Papyrus Paintings are painted in vivid color on genuine papyrus, made using the same principles developed thousands of years ago on the banks of the Nile, where the papyrus plant grows to this day. Paintings are executed in the style of Frontalism, one of the most striking characteristics of ancient Egyptian Art.

Frontalism

Frontalism is the style in which every known piece of ancient Egyptian art was produced. In paintings, the style of Frontalism means that the head of the character is drawn in profile, while the body is drawn f rom a front view. However, even though the face is in profile, the eye is drawn in full, as it would be seen from the front. The legs always face the same direction as the head, with one foot forward and one back.

Ancient Egyptian figures, especially of gods and pharaohs, are noticeable for their very formal, even rigid stance and posture, but their faces are always serene, regardless of the scene in which they are depicted. There were very strict rules about how a god or pharaoh could be represented, which even included a prohibition against anything being drawn in front of the face or body of the pharaoh, even when the scene depicted clearly required it for any kind of realism. Realism was simply not a goal of ancient Egyptian Art. It is these very formal and stylized rules that have made Egyptian Art one of the most widely recognized forms of art in the world. Over thousands of years Egyptian artists adhered to this one style, which is quite remarkable, especi ally as compared to the extreme differences in art expression that have occurred in the modern world in just the past 100 years or so. The only acknowledged variations are in the portrayals of animals and common people as compared to the more formal depictions of pharaohs and gods. As can be seen in many Egyptian paintings, animals and common people or slaves are represented in a more natural manner, though still within very strict and formulaic rules.

This frontalist style is the primary reason why ancient Egyptian art is so easily recognizable, and its appeal has lasted through many centuries to this day.

Ann M. Hession is the founder of Egyptian Artisans. A graduate of Harvard University, Ms. Hession has been fascinated by ancient Egyptian art and culture since high school. Egyptian Artisans is dedicated to sharing the beauty and mystery of ancient Egypt through making available fine Egyptian art and jewelry.

UFO: 300000000 Day!

The CIA says that the Population of the United States reached 295,734,134 in July of 2005. I figure it will hit the magic number of 300,000,000 million in the coming months.

I was wondering how to celebrate this event; the day we reach that magic number. (Note: You can learn from the CIA. Go to: http://www.Cia.gov/Cia/publications/factbook/geos/us.html.)

The CIA said that the Population number above is only approximate. I was hoping that I could learn that about 2:17 a.m. on March 13 we would reach the magic number. I realized that was hopeless despite the fact that the CIA gives the birthrate to two significant figures.

I was not to be dissuaded. We could give the 300,000,000th member of our Population gifts like they do for the New Year babies.

But how would we ever determine that individual?

I decided it was hopeless. God only would know who it was to be. He sees everything now, front, and back.

You see, I had to know exactly who that person was beforehand. Only then could I be there with the Publishing Clearinghouse prize team to give out the goodies. They know how to do things like that. They gave a million bucks away last year to an older couple right here in our dinky town in Idaho! The sign at our motel stills says, WELCOME PUBLISHING CLEARINGHOUSE! The owner just cant take it down.

(Yes, the couple who got the million bucks is now back where they were before they got the loot last year. Folks here generally dont have that kind of dough and when they get it they buy a larger house and give the rest away to their zillion relatives--or to folks that claim they are relatives.)

I sent Saint Peter a postcard to get another interview with God. I got Saint Peters answer by telephone. Our conservation was as follows:

Saint Peter: You cant send two cards in the same year.

He hung up!

Devastated, I did the one think I didnt want to do. That was I contacted Xrytspet. As you probab ly know this yellow-eyed she-devil is from Fanton in G10009845788899990766.

When Xrytspet appeared, Silzrack was with her. I said, When did you get back, Silzrack?

He said, I just came to tell you that you are wasting your time with this Population problem. It cant be solved. There are just too many random events for you or us to predict where you should be to deliver prizes when an individual turns the Population dial to 300,000,000 or any other exact number.

That was very discouraging.

I looked at Xrytspet.

She shook her head.

Finally, she said, It will be Rosalina Hernandez from Hermosillo, Mexico. She will arrive in Mesa, Arizona at 1:17 a.m. on March 24, 2005. A green Ford farm truck full of lettuce will dump her at Superstition Mall in front of the Penneys store. She will be wearing a pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt that says, I WANT MY MAN TO BE A MEAN LEAN MONEY-MAKING MACHINE.

I was elated. It could be done! I said, Ill be there! Ill be there!

Xrytspet smiled at me and said, GOTCHA

The End

70s Theme Party: Think More Than Just Disco!

When people think of ideas for a 70s Theme Party, they think of Dancing Music, Disco balls, polyester clothes and bad hair! Well, that may be a piece of what the Seventies were about, but it isnt everything. Allow me to suggest some somewhat more unique ideas for planning a 70s Theme Party:

In 1975 Saturday Night Live made its debut on the national airwaves. The Characters created by the initial cast are still difficult to surpass. Invite your guests to come dressed as their favorite Saturday Night Live Characters. Set up Televisions playing SNL episodes (you can rent the best of series) with the sound down. If you want to expand the options for costumes open it up to any favorite 70s celebrities including TV Characters, actors/actresses, movie Characters and Musicians. Suggestions would include KISS, Characters from Grease or Saturday Night Fever, Charlies Angels, The Godfather, Rocky, anyone from Rocky Horror Picture Show, a Star Wars character, Kojak, The Incredible Hulk, or even Bo Derek if you want to wear a bikini!

Music should reflect th e entire decade and while there will be lots of the BeeGees and Disco tunes, dont forget to play some of the more intellectual Music to come out of the 70s including Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Queen, etc. At the end of the night you can have a dance off. Start off the same way the decade did. In the beginning Dancing was a type of anything goes atmosphere but as the decade progressed Dancing became an exact science so upgrade to the Hustle, the bump, and other line dances. Then, just as everyone is either getting frustrated from not being able to do the line dances or is sure there is no doubt they will win the dance off throw them a wrench. Play a song everyone --everywhere knows the dance to Y.M.C.A. by the Village People and watch everyone laugh.

Be sure to take lots of photos to turn into digital prints as Party favors. Feel free to put a few anti-war posters up just to keep things unbiased and above all have fun. Th e 70s were a decade of growth of a nation and of course, growth of the influence of popular culture. Rubiks cubes or Disco ball key chains, mood rings, a box of hamburger helper, or even personalized pet rocks would also add a new dimension to your 70s Theme Party.

Monsters and Demons: A Short History of the Horror Film

Going to the Movies may not seem like a novel way for little kids to spend an afternoon. But have you ever brought your child to see a Disney flick and ended up viewing trailers for Jeepers Creepers 2 or Freddie vs. Jason? When this happened in a Birmingham, Alabama cinema last year, parents became concerned about what the main attraction would be. But before the managers at the cinema could turn off the previews, the main attraction came on, and it wasnt Piglet. Instead they were presented with the gruesome opening of Wrong Turn, an 18-rated slasher flick in much the same vein as the previews.

Is there a more genre more criticized than the horror film? Not bloody likely. Theres the argument that horror Films are socially and morally irresponsible, even influencing some people to imitate the brutal methods of the killers portrayed on screen. Horror Films actually have the opposite effect on normal people sick minds will commit atrocities anyway. Watching horror Films lets us encounter our secret fears, share them with other viewers, and eliminate the terror by meeting it head-on.

The genre is almost as old as cinema itself the silent short film Le Manoir du Diable directed by Georges Mlis in 1896 was the first horror movie and the first vampire flick. The movie only lasted two minutes, but audiences loved it, and Mlis took pleasure in giving them even more devils and skeletons.

In the early 1900s German filmmakers created the first horror-themed feature Films, and director Paul Wegener enjoyed great success with his version of the old Jewish folk tale Der Golem in 1913 (which he remade to even greater success in 1920). This fable about an enormous clay figure, which is brought to life by an antiquarian and then fights against its forced servitude, was a clear precursor to the many monster Movies that flourished in Hollywood during the Thirties.

The most enduring early German horror film is probably F.W. Murnaus Nosferatu (1922), the first feature-length vampire movie. But one movie paved the way for the serious horror film and art cinema in general Robert Wienes work of genius The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, still held up as an model of the potent creativity of cinema even to this day.

Early Hollywood drama dabbles in horror themes including versions of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) starring Lon Chaney, the first American horror-film movie star.

It was in the early 1930s that Universal Studios, created the modern horror film genre, bringing to the screen a series of successful gothic-steeped features including Dracula, Frankenstein ( both 1931) and The Mummy (1932) all of which spawned numerous sequels. No other studio had as much success with the genre (even if some of the Films made at Paramount and MGM were better).

In the nuclear-charged atmosphere of the 1950s the tone of horror Films shifted away from the gothic and towards the modern. Aliens took over the local cinema, if not the world, and they were not at all interested in extending the tentacle of friendship. Humanity had to overcome endless threats from Outside: alien invasions, and deadly mutations to people, plants, and insects. Two of the most popular Films of the period were The Thing From Another World (1951) and Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (1956).

Horror Movies became a lot more lurid and gorier in the late Fifties as the technical side of cinematograph y became easier and cheaper. This era saw the rise of studios centered exclusively on horror, particularly British production company Hammer Films, which focused on bloody remakes of traditional horror stories, often starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, and American International Pictures (AIP), which made a series of Edgar Allan Poe themed Films starring Vincent Price.

The early 1960s saw the release of two Films that sought to close the gap between the subject matter and the viewer, and involve the latter in the reprehensible deeds shown on screen. One was Michael Powells Peeping Tom, the other was a very low-budget film called Psycho, both using all-too-human monsters rather than supernatural ones to scare the audience.

When Rosemarys Baby began ringing tills in the late Sixties, horror film budgets rose significantly, and many top names jumped at the chance to show off their theatrical skills in a horror pic. By that time, a public fascination with the occult led to a series of serious, supernatural-themed, often explicitly gruesome horror Movies. The Exorcist (1973) broke all records for a horror film, and led to the commercial success of The Omen.

In 1975 Jaws, directed by a young Steven Spielberg, became the highest grossing film ever. The genre fractured somewhat in the late 1970s, with mainstream Hollywood focusing on disaster Movies such as The Towering Inferno while independent filmmakers came up with disturbing and explicit gore-fests such as Tobe Hoopers The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

John Carpenters Halloween introduced the teens-threatened-by-superhuman-evil theme t hat would be copied in dozens of increasingly violent Movies throughout the 1980s including the long running Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street series. Horror Movies turned to self-mocking irony and downright parody in the 1990s the teenagers in Scream often made reference to the history of horror Movies. Only 1999s surprise independent hit The Blair Witch Project attempted regular scares.

So go ahead, take a stroll through these favourite horror Movies of all time. But pick your way very carefully, this walk is not for the faint of heart. And if you happen to hear what sounds like some subdued whispering or soft creepy grating sounds, just pay no attention to it. Its probably only the wind.

Expressing Profound Ideas and Feelings

The inadequacy of words becomes most apparent when the writer tries to express ideas and feelings that are deep and thoughtful, that touch the most intense human emotions and profound values.

At the time, words to express exactly what the Author wants to convey become difficult to choose because the denotations and connotations of the words interferes with the feelings or ideas to be described, explained, or illustrated.

That is when words lack the intensity, the power, and the rigor that the Author wishes to convey. That is when the writer struggles to find the right words, the precise words, and the exact words and yet cann ot find them because that is the inadequacy of vocabulary.

Since the correct word cannot be found, often the Author resorts to the obscure, the ambiguous, and the little know, the academic, or scholarly word to give the appearance of erudition, but which, in effect, does just the opposite. It clouds the meaning to be conveyed rather than clarify it.

Simplicity is the key. Simple word tend to be more exact, more understood, and with greater common denotations and connotations. Although inadequate, they are superior to the pretentious, elaborate, the coy and the cute as Strunk and White tell us.

Caricature Artists

These days, caricature artists are popular at lots of events. Event organizers are trading in the usual photographers for these artists for virtually any occasion, may they be grand openings, birthdays, company picnics, awarding ceremonies or weddings. The charm of caricature artists is almost as old as the art itself. Centuries ago, European aristocrats hired them to capture images of guests at their grandiose banquets, and presented the portraits to their guests as gifts. There are many styles of caricature, from simple and whimsical to wild and exaggerated.

Most caricature artists produce portraits pretty quickly. They can do about 12 to 20 portraits in an hour. Just tell them who your important guests are, and they will take care of capturing their personalities in just a few strokes. You can either give the portraits to the subjects as they leave, or keep them for yourself as remembrances. You can even ask the artist to inscribe special messages.

Caricatu re artists also provide great entertainment. Most of your guests will watch them at work and who could blame them? Its certainly very amusing and interesting to watch a caricature artist as he masterfully commands his pencil to draw larger-than-life representations of virtually anyone.

The rates of caricature artists range from $125 to about $175 per hour, depending on how complex you want the portraits to be. This might seem steep at first, but remember that fast artists can do as many as 20 portraits in one hour thats only about seven dollars per sketch.

The Devil's in Town: Guantanamo Tribunals 7/7/06

There is an old saying: take charge of your life or someone else will. It has been provenby allowing captives at Guantanamo Bay free, they have ended up back where they started from, killing more Americans and English Soldiers in Afghanistan and other places of the world. What provoked America to launch its attack on Afghanistan? Have we forgot: 911.

The Supreme Court of America does not take into account the spirit of retribution, payback these soldiers of fortune plan to do with their newfound freedom; or the many parents that are standing in the rain at funerals for their young sons and daughters, and may have to because of these misfits. These judges have gained too much power; they are like Titans sitting on Americas throne, way up high in the clouds where they can only see little dots running here and there. And the UN and EU are also in same daydream, and Green peace, and alike, are on some honeymoon from reality, or so I feel.

What was right and wrong yesterday may not be the same today, this is what is called Change, what we all live in, and you fight fire with fire. This is not a Bush thing, he just happens to be the main spokesman, this is a devil thing, he is in town, and laughing all the way up and down Manhattan.

The letter of the law, or the Geneva Convention Laws are useless, they only protect the evil country that does not live by such laws, and it enables them to kill more Americans. God help us all from within, before we let our peers set us up in our own tombs early.

The World of the Macabre

[The Macabre World The word Macabre can mean many things; to me it is simply a word with a world attached to it, within itself, a chilly one at that. Let me take this opportunity to share a little of my dark side with you, the Macabre and my Grandfather; first the Macabre.

One can only guess why the supernatural is so hard to define, too fearsome to experience, but so attractive to pursue. Perhaps it is a safe thrill, death without dying, a ghost without seeing. It can and has and does promote fear and nightmares. It can be considered a primal source of literature.

It is like a fire, why do we all go to watch the house burn down, orworse!-? Or why do we look down the dark alley and wish we could run through it, but its safer to just walk on byand so we do. We laugh at crumbled jokes; perhaps to ignore our problems. I am not immune to the shock of the macabre, far from it. Or the ghoulish suggestible. I even wrote a whole book of macabre poems. Why? It seemed I had an empty room someplace hidden and I needed to fill it and so I did.

I seem to be able to connect somewhat happily with the supernaturalme, being a mere man, I cannot stay in this profoundly incredulous world too long though. Having said this, now lets go into my Grandfathers world for a moment, his name was Tony.

[Grandpas world Come into my world, my grandfather once told me, then youd believe. Believe what, I said to myself when he made this statement-question. Some folks said he was seeing things; he was 83-years old, when he died, and he made that statement six months before he died. He was an Old Russian, who came to America in l917, and went into the US Army, and back overseas to fight in WWI; hard working, indeed he was. Didnt smile a lotsomewhat of a flat shape to his smile when he tried, yet he had a personality. Yes, a man of few words, lest he waste them, and he never had time for that. But when he did talk, for some reason, you listened. The words I just quoted from him were really the last words I can remember him saying barer he may have mumbled something, as often he did, and I didnt pay any attention to him most of the time, it was a habit of his.

Henceforward with this scenario: He was seeing demons tunneling their way through the ground to his basementfrom down the street (lets say several hundred feet) for him, to get him, to take him: where? He didnt say. But surely you and I know where such creatures take people, should they have such an opportunity: and it is not to heaven. Be it fiction or nonfiction. He Knew his time was short, we all know this when we get past fifty, and surely at 83. Thus, this day, a day I was over at the house visiting him, and he made this statement to me, he leaned against the stove, him to my left side. I didnt know quite what to say after he said that to me. I guess I must have been bewildered somewhat, thoughts pondering on his strange behavior, his world. We all know this day will come, this day when we have to put the bare facts on the table and sort things out; facts or no facts we have to put them down even the bits and pieces we dont think are facts. So was there someone digging into the basement. Absurd, you say. It all depends were youve been, and how old you are. He said to me, if I didnt believe him, Come into my world, then youll see. But of course, at 27-years old, back in l974, how could I step into his world, I could hardly manage the real physical world I was in, and here, here stepping into a fantasy world, a fantasy world that belonged to an old man, was beyond me: and even demon infested at that.

It would be ten years to the date that I would enter into his world, the visionary world, the world where if you do not have control, you can get lost in it, and perhaps never find the doorway out. Unless you been there, it is hard to grab a hold of; I mean really been there. You can tell me night and day, t his world my grandfather glimpsed at is not real, but seven months in l983-84, I glimpsed it, and you cannot convince me it doesnt exist anymore.

In l985, my mother and I lived together, and she had this peculiar visitor, peering through the window, and I could never see him. But remember I would believe her because I had experienced some fifty visions amongst other this. So I told her I could not see him, but I believed he was there. She cried one night; he was not a handsome brute when she drew a picture of him for me. To make a short story shorter, she wanted me to help her get rid of this ghoul of sorts, and thus, I had to find out his hiding place. And it was in a turned off lamp. I took it, and put it in the hallway cabinet, and that is perhaps where he still is.

A friend of mine came to me once and said (a year later): I have a ghost or demon, imp or something in my house, come over and see, get rid of him for me. I didnt want to, to tell you the tru th, but out of friendship I did. When I entered his livingroom, it was cold, and it was 90-degrees out side, it was summer in Minnesota, and his apartment was even warmer; I walked about the house, every time I got closer to this one picture on the wall, my skin started to get goose bumps. I told him to remove the picture; the ghoul was in the tiger of the picture. That was it, he never had a problem again, and he also put it in a hallway cabinet.

Anyhow, this was just something I thought you might like to hear before you go to bed tonight, so say your prayers.

The Art of Graceful Oil Painting

As with most things, an Oil Painting begins with good planning, and the Art Graceful Oil Painting is the same. StArt with plenty of good brushes, #1 to #10 (round kolinsky brushes are a good choice) together with one or two #20 brushes to cover larger areas, and not forgetting turpentine to wash the brushes afterwards.

The palette should be of hard, dark wood, wiped beforehand with linseed Oil.

The paint itself should be of good quality and of the basic colour range, making sure that all paints are compatible. Again, planning is needed here as you may need to purchase any specific colours according to the subject of y our Painting.

The canvas should be of a good quality, primed several times beforehand and ideally it should be rubbed afterwards with fine sandpaper, all for the purpose of covering and hiding the texture of the canvas.

To create a work of Art, the Painting itself should be planned out also. It can be either be drawn on the canvas initially, or drawn on separate paper and transferred to the canvas by carbon paper. Either way, it should be sketched very approximately to stArt with, making sure that the overall basic dimensions are in proportion, then the increasingly finer details can be added. The subject of the Painting should be something close to your heArt. Invariably, the more interest you have in a subject the more success you will achieve. Large areas of the background should be painted first, allowing sufficient time for drying in between coats. Some people tend to wipe the surface after each coat with half an onion in order for subsequent layers to be absorbed better. Foreground details and finer details are added last. A final coat of lacquer can also be added.

These are only some of the basics of creating an Oil Painting. Much can be learned by watching an expert at work, regardless of the topic, so you should make every effort t o find a competent Artist who can create a work of Art, with flowing, Graceful lines in his Oil Painting. But the internet is also an ideal place to gather a great deal of information about different Oil Painting techniques.
